Overview

Overlords

Overlords are a class of powerful Demons in Hell. They rank just above regular Sinner Demons and place fifth in terms of power in Hell's hierarchy. The Overlords are considered so powerful that they rule over certain parts of Hell and have an infamous reputation for doing so. Despite having the same social status and somewhat similar hierarchy, not all Overlords get along with each other. This is seen in the rivalry between Alastor and Vox, and between Carmilla and Velvette. As stated by Carmilla Carmine, Overlords gain and increase their power by "owning" souls. A small group of overlords can collectively own millions of the souls that reside in Hell, and use them to increase their power and influence. Overlords seem to accomplish this by having their victims sign their souls away to them through contracts or soul binding deals. Valentino's binding of Angel Dust is accomplished through a contract, and Alastor's possession of Husk is likely through a deal, with Alastor being associated with deal-making by various demons.

Physical Appearance

Velvette is a slim demon with cedar-brown skin, and long curly hair kept into pigtails with bangs by black hair ties. Her hair is colored in a desire-red that features the insides colored in a dark navy-blue, and white swirled-streaks on her pigtails and one on her bangs. Her eyes have white irises, red sclera and slit pupils, and her makeup consists of burgundy eyeshadow on her eyelids, and black lipstick on her lips with a strip across the center of her mouth, and fangs inside. Velvette's clothing is that of white skull-shaped earrings, and a sleeveless navy-blue coat with burgundy lining and two desire hearts on the left side of the fur collar (similar to the ones on Valentino's). Her coat is usually worn over a sleeveless, black turtlenecked crop-top that includes two desire hearts on the chest. Her set of loose-pants are colored in navy-blue and desire-red in a striped-pattern, held by a black belt with a white heart-shaped buckle. Similar to her hair, Velvette's clothing changes appearance occassionally. For footwear, she wore heeled black shoes with white poms on the top. Velvette accessorized with black-striped fingerless opera gloves with alternating colors - white for her right glove and desire for her left.

Personality

Velvette is the energetic, stylish and trendy type who is always up-to-date with the latest trends and technology. This is one of the main reasons why she and Vox get along quite well with each other. Faustisse has also described her as being a very crazy person. She is critical and judgy when it comes to fashion. Velvette is also observant, such as when she notices Carmilla's expression after she pulled out the severed Exorcist's head, and suspected her to be responsible, in which confirmed her suspicions later. She is shown to be a cruel and overbearing employer, insulting and demeaning her employees (who are justifiably afraid of her) while barking orders at them. One unfortunate employee is made to function as a living mannequin, ordered to stand still while Velvette uses magic to change her outfit many times in order to decide which one to wear during her show. She considers herself as "the backbone of the Vees", meaning that she is more willing to put up a fight, as seen when she manages to irritate Carmilla Carmine at the meeting and when she insults and makes fun of Zestial and the other Overlords for being "afraid to fight".

Abilities

Clothing Manipulation - Velvette is able to instantly produce and change the clothing of others in various styles and types by swiping her fingers like she swipes on a phone screen.

Skillsets

Wide Intellect - She correctly deduced that Carmilla was responsible for the demons' first murder of an Exorcist Angel based of her body language and silence during the Overlords' meeting. Potion-making - Velvette is said to be good with food and skilled in preparing potions. An example of this would be the love potion being advertised under Valentino's brand shown on posters and billboards in "Radio Killed the Video Star" and "Masquerade". Cooking Musical Talent - She is capable of singing and even rapping. Technological Skill - As someone who uses her phone and social media all the time, she has vast skill in technology.

Valentino's binding of Angel Dust is accomplished through a contract, and Alastor's possession of Husk is likely through a deal, with Alastor being associated with deal-making by various demons in the pilot and throughout the show. This was later confirmed in "Hello Rosie!", where Alastor sealed a deal with Charlie via handshake and verbal agreement. Luckily, not all deals or agreements involve exchanging something for a soul, meaning that the exchange can be changed for something else, such as Alastor and Charlie's deal: offering information in exchange for a favor at a time of choosing. While there is no known way to get out of an Overlord's contract, the victim can find a loophole to their benefit, such as with Angel Dust: while Valentino owns his soul in a way that the Royal Family can't free him, he can only do whatever he wants to him while Angel is in his studio and apparently can't remove said loophole. Zestial is the oldest of the Overlords, while Velvette is the youngest.

Overlord Affiliations and Representations

Some Overlords may also form affiliations with each other to create subsets in the Overlord class and the hierarchy overall. One such example is with Vox, Valentino, and Velvette, who are joined in a special Overlord triumvirate called the "Vees" as major influencers in the media industry. Some Overlords appear to represent a form of media or business industry. Examples of such cases being Alastor with radio, Vox with television, Valentino with pornography, Velvette with social media, and Carmilla Carmine with weapons dealing.

Sinner Demons

Sinner Demons, also known simply as Sinners, are a subspecies of demons that were all once humans who committed sins before they died, which results in them arriving in Hell as their punishment in the afterlife. Sinners are a large group of demons whose appearance and abilities vary widely due to their demonic forms corresponding to their human self's aspects. They are in the lower-middle levels of Hell's hierarchy, above the three lowest tiers. Sinners have known limitations that separate them from the natural Hellborn demons; for instance, all Sinners are confined to the Pride Ring and are unable to traverse through the other rings. Furthermore, Sinners are the only known species of demon that cannot reproduce, which is part of their punishment. Although they are the souls of dead humans, these demons are shown to still consume food and the like, which suggests that their bodies still need the intake in order to survive. Despite these setbacks, Sinners have the rare privilege of changing their social status by gaining power, either by making deals with stronger demons and/or taking power by force. Those who have accumulated enough power through these deals can rise in social status and rise to the next class in the hierarchy, the Overlords. Furthermore, sinners are ageless and do not physically age and, therefore, will not die from the natural passage of time. Nonetheless, they can still be hurt and killed. There is no true extent to a Sinner's appearance, since it is the manifestation of the soul in question. Usually, a human's demon form is influenced by the human's soul, sins or crimes. An example being Angel Dust and his family: since he was in the mafia, he and his family members who are with him in Hell have spider-like appearances because of their "web" of crimes. Sometimes, the form is influenced by the human's death, such as Lyle Lipton acquiring teeth akin to that of piano keys after being crushed to death by a falling piano.
