This is a world where an alien force has mutated the Earth, pools of a black goo dot the landscape, many sources of fresh water are radioactive, mutant monsters roam free, and the once great human civilizations are now nothing but ruins. On the surface, human have learned to live in small, manageable settlements where everyone pulls their weight. These villages are rough and heavily fortified with strong defenses, which not only keep the mutants out, but also to help repeal bandits. Bandits are humans that forms migratory groups the prey on the lost and the weak, robbing other humans to the bone and keeping on the move so they don't attract any unwanted attention. Aside from bandit groups and the humans who live in the fortified villages; most humans live in bunkers, which are a maze of rooms and passageways that run underground. The bunkers are designed for withstand any attack with walls of reinforced concrete and a giant vault door serving as the only way in and out.*
