Being the most advanced and mature successor to the original Mega Man, X's design is a little more detailed. He physically looks much older than Mega Man, with his base age being a teenager or early adulthood. His upper torso is covered by a frame similar to those of his arms and legs, with a light blue crust that borders the outline of his helmet and a reddish triangular-shaped crystal was added in place of Mega Man's squared segment. His eyes are green instead of blue. Additionally, his boots are segmented and on his gloves, his hands are white. His arm-cannon has a stylized dark outline instead of Mega Man's light-blue.

Being a robot, X possesses strength, speed, endurance and other physical abilities superior to those of any human, likewise, the limits of these abilities are never specified. He is capable of deploying different special abilities already installed in his body such as the Dash, the Triangle Jump and the Air Dash. X is in turn helped by the Armor System created by Dr. Light. During the games, X's true abilities are the source of speculation by several of his enemies. Giving us to understand that X is constantly evolving and adapting, wielding a power that not even he himself knows. Dr. Cain has also examined X's system and structure, and like Sigma, he has never come to a certain conclusion about how his internal system actually works.
