Persona Attributes

Percival de Rolo

Background: Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III, often known simply as Percival de Rolo or Percy, is a human gunslinger member of Vox Machina and the father of firearms in the world of Exandria. Percy's family once ruled the city of Whitestone, but when he was young, they were overthrown and murdered by the Briarwoods, Anna Ripley and their allies. Percy fled, his hair turning white from the trauma, and he wandered aimlessly for several years. He was eventually visited in dreams by the shadow demon Orthax who gave him the knowledge to build the very first firearm in existence, The List. Apperance: Percy is a young human in his early twenties. He originally had brown hair, but it turned white as a result of the trauma he suffered after the Briarwoods killed his family. He wears distinctive, double-lensed glasses. Percy is either nearsighted or far-sighted. Personality: Compared to his fellow party members, Percy is rather quiet, usually only speaking when necessary. However, he has shown he can be quite persuasive in social situations and is somewhat of a tactician within the group. Despite his prim and conscientious exterior, however, Percy has shown himself on multiple occasions to hold the signature eccentricity of a tinkerer. Having experienced both the pinnacle of entitlement and the depths of poverty, Percy displays a wisdom and self-awareness beyond his years, especially in regard to social status. He indicates a particular fondness for unceremoniously dethroning other, snobbier nobility with a combination of his own title and a biting wit. Percy thinks of himself as being the only one capable of making adult decisions, despite his young age. He is also very pragmatic, with a consistent belief that the ends justify the means. This has led to moments of conflict between him and the party.

Vax

Background: Vax'ildan, nicknamed Vax, is a half-elf rogue/paladin/druid and a member of Vox Machina. Born in Byroden, he and his twin sister Vex'ahlia were raised there by their mother Elaina until they were taken to live in the elven city of Syngorn at the direction of their father, Syldor Vessar. Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia were unhappy there, and left in their teens to be on their own. Appearance: Like his twin sister Vex'ahlia, Vax is a twenty-eight-year-old half-elf. He greatly resembles his sister, with long, dark brown hair and hazel eyes, but at 5'11" he is two inches taller than her. During his resurrection ritual in Vesrah, a part of his hair was braided with Vex's blue feathers as part of her offering. Vax'ildan wears the Deathwalker's Ward, a black set of studded leather armor trimmed with black feathers. When he activates the armor's ability to fly, a pair of large black raven wings sprout from his back. Personality: Compared to his sister, Vax is far more focused and serious, but he is not without his moments of playfulness, as he is quite fond of being a prankster. He can be incredibly deceptive and often navigates through social situations with ease and occasionally coin. Vax tends to wear his heart on his sleeve. He has a habit of self-loathing and tends to brood when undergoing emotional crises. When he feels overwhelmed, he prefers to walk away when it becomes too much to bear instead of dealing with the problem. At times, he keeps his emotions to himself, the only person he ever trusted for a long time being his sister. But he does open up towards those who earn his trust and his love. Vax'ildan has said that he felt depressed for a long time before meeting with Vox Machina. For many years, he thought of himself as "lost and a wanderer", his goal being to find some purpose in his life. Vax'ildan is bisexual. He shows interest in both men and women, specifically Shaun Gilmore, a human sorcerer, and Keyleth, a half-elven druid and fellow party member

Vex

Background: Vex'ahlia, nicknamed Vex, is a half-elf ranger / rogue member of Vox Machina. Born in Byroden, she and her older twin brother Vax'ildan were raised there by their mother Elaina until they were taken to live in the elven city of Syngorn at the direction of their father, Syldor Vessar. She and Vax'ildan were unhappy, and left in their early adulthood to be on their own. In their travels, Vex'ahlia rescued a bear cub, Trinket, gaining a loyal animal companion. Appearance: Vex'ahlia, like her twin brother Vax'ildan, is a twenty-eight-year-old half-elf with hazel eyes. She is identical in appearance to Vax, albeit two inches shorter than him which would make her about 5'9". She wears her long, dark brown hair in a thick braid, which is usually accompanied with blue feathers. The feathers were a gift from Vax so he could help her through a dark period of her life. Personality: Compared to Vax, Vex is the more pragmatic of the twins. She is very deceptive and can usually bluff her way through various social encounters. Her charisma has also made her good at haggling. Her tendency to haggle stems from her frugality. Her frugal nature is the result of Vax and herself having to fend for themselves during their teenage years. Unofficially, she is the treasurer for Vox Machina, and often only gives cryptic answers when questioned by the group about how much gold they have.

Vex (personality continued)

But beneath her flirtatious attitude, self-confidence, and outgoing exterior lay a girl who feels broken and unwanted. This may be a symptom of her upbringing in Syngorn, where she and Vax had been judged not only due to their status as half-elves, but also because they were bastard children of their ambassador father. Compared to her brother, Vex was much more affected by the elves' treatment of her. As such, she developed a mentality where she would constantly try to make herself look like she came from money so that people would respect her. She will take to heart any insults people with wealth and status make towards her and has a tendency to dislike someone if they seem like they are judging her.[55] Such behavior has led to people assuming she was obsessed with wealth.

Keyleth

Background: Keyleth (pronounced /ˈkiːlɪθ/) is a half-elf druid member of Vox Machina. Keyleth was raised in Zephrah as a member of the Air Ashari tribe. When she was a child, her mother Vilya left on a journey to earn the title of headmaster of the tribe, but never came back. After reaching adulthood, Keyleth left her home to attempt the Aramenté herself. Appearance: Key'leth is a twenty-three-year-old young half-elven woman standing about 6' tall, with fair skin, green eyes and long red hair, which was later cut short. She is depicted with freckles on her nose and cheeks in some official material. She's almost never seen without her signature "antlers", a druidic circlet. Personality: Keyleth is shy and very socially inept. This makes it difficult for her to persuade others to help her and her friends out in many situations. However, she also has a strong moral compass, which leads her to question at times some of the rather extreme choices that Vox Machina tends to make. Although she has slowly been overcoming her own social flaws, at times her anger gets the better of her. She has been gaining more confidence in herself, and becoming more pragmatic, without compromising her morals. At times, Keyleth is prone to acting impulsively, which has led to unfavorable outcomes. However, she's also very tenacious and stubborn, refusing to give up even in the bleakest of circumstances and always wanting to go the extra mile to help others. Another thing that defines Keyleth is her tendency to feel guilty. She tends to focus more on her mistakes than her successes. Whereas many of her people, the Ashari, are worshipers of the nature goddess Melora, following her as a deity and example, Keyleth herself is much less devout.

Pike

Background: Pike Trickfoot is a gnome cleric of Sarenrae and a member of Vox Machina. Pike was raised in the city of Westruun by her great-great-grandfather Wilhand Trickfoot, who had redeemed their family of thieves by becoming a follower of Sarenrae. She joined Vox Machina to help them find her missing friend Grog. During a fight, Pike's body was cut in half, and after her resurrection her black hair turned to white. Appearance: Pike, being a deep gnome, is small in stature but average for a gnome. Her skintone has been described as light, but she appeared in various official media with a tan skintone. Pike's hair was originally black with a purple streak. After her first death and resurrection, her hair turned white. She keeps it wrapped up in braids and occasionally buns. She also has a scar that runs down her left eye and (presumably) a scar across her lower torso from being bisected by a glabrezu. Pike wears plate armor in the blue and silver colors of her goddess, and a symbol of Sarenrae around her neck that she uses as a spellcasting focus. Personality: Pike, being a cleric, is very faithful to her goddess, Sarenrae. Ever since was brought back to life, she has been dealing with feelings of frustration, guilt, and anger. Despite being kind and welcoming, she has shown a more violent side, as shown when she killed an unconscious duergar in the Emberhold fortress. She enjoys fighting and feeling powerful, leaning into her nickname of "Monstah". Nevertheless, Pike is very compassionated cares very deeply for all of her party members, often going out of her way to ensure nobody falls unconscious or dies in battle. She often feels like she has to put on a brave face for everyone just so they do not worry about her. Pike spent a lot of time away from the party to focus on helping people, be it by rebuilding a temple, taking care of refugees, or helping ward a city against enemies. She also performed several Resurrection rituals for most of the party minus Keyleth

Grog

Background: Grog Strongjaw is a goliath barbarian/fighter and a member of Vox Machina. When he was young, Grog was exiled from the Herd of Storms by its leader, Grog's uncle Kevdak, for taking pity on a helpless old gnome the tribe was attacking. He was then taken in by that same gnome, Wilhand Trickfoot, and raised alongside his great-great-granddaughter Pike. Appearance: Grog, being a goliath, is grey-skinned with tattoos all over his upper body and his bald head. He weighs upward of 645 pounds and stands at 8 feet, 7 inches tall. After having a phylactery removed from his body, a scar formed on his chest which remains a mark of the lingering darkness within him. After donning the Belt of Dwarvenkind, Grog has grown a thick black beard, a feat thought to be impossible for him due to male goliaths having no body hair. Personality: Because of his low intelligence, Grog is illiterate and cannot read or write in any language. After being unable to read any of the runes written in Giant within the City of Brass, Grog expressed a desire to learn how to read, and asked for Pike to help him learn the Common alphabet. Since then, Pike has managed to teach Grog how to read words in Common that are up to five letters long. Grog has shown himself to be rather impulsive, as seen often when he charges ahead of the group into an unknown area of a dungeon or map. He was also the only chaotic-neutral group member at the start of the campaign, and he is often more aggressive and less merciful than some of the other characters. He does not like being bested in single combat. He is willing to cheat to win, as seen when he drank a potion of Stone Giant Strength to defeat the half-orc Kern. Despite this, Grog has a sweet, happy side that often comes out when he is around his friends. Grog is physically the strongest member of Vox Machina and often attempts to take the majority of damage, acting as the party tank, due to his high armor class and constitution.

Scanlan

Background: Scanlan Shorthalt is a gnome bard member of the group Vox Machina. Scanlan spent a portion of his life travelling with Dr. Dranzel's Spectacular Traveling Troupe to support his single mother, Juniper. During his years of travel, he encountered a gnome named Sybil, who later gave birth to his daughter, Kaylie, without his knowledge. At one point, he witnessed his mother's death at the hands of a goblin. Appearance: As a gnome, Scanlan is shorter than the other members of Vox Machina. He is also much older, but because gnomes live so much longer than many humanoid races, he appears to be around the same age as his companions. Scanlan has brown hair and usually wears a beret. He is depicted wearing purple clothing with an open shirt that reveals his chest hair. His skin tone varies from slightly tanned to brown. Personality: Scanlan's quick wit and silver tongue made him Vox Machina's best negotiator and deceiver. Scanlan often acted as support for his allies by enhancing their abilities or weakening their opponents. He was also capable of holding his own with a combination of magic, improvisation, and courage, as exemplified by his solo fight against Duke Vedmire and his eight armed guards. Scanlan was often regarded as the comic relief of the group and almost never brought up his own troubles and anxieties, instead focusing on making jokes or witty comments. Scanlan is an extensive womanizer but has been known to flirt with men as well, particularly Grog and Vax. He has said that Vax kissing him was not the first time an elf-man kissed him (but it was in the top three). When Vax and Grog pranked him with a potion of love, causing him to become infatuated with Percy, it was confirmed that Scanlan is bi- or pansexual. Scanlan tends to flirt with most women he interacts with, but most notably with Pike. For years, he made advances to her that she politely ignored.

Setting: Tal'Dorei

Tal'Dorei is the name used by humans to refer to the entire continent on Exandria in which the Republic of Tal'Dorei rests, though this is purely a human conflation. The Elvish name for the continent is Gwessar, meaning "Fields of Joy".
