History I.
Ji-Woon Hak thrived under the attention of others, energized by every eye that watched him and every tongue that spoke his name. Amidst the prestige, he had only one desire: MORE. Even as a child, he found ways to draw crowds. Working in his family's restaurant, he attracted business with the knife-throwing shows he performed. Gullible tourists believed this was a traditional South Korean experience, and happily gave up their money to witness it. Ji-Woon's father spent the restaurant's earnings on dancing and singing lessons for his son, forcing him to achieve the fame he could never have. Ji-Woon did not disappoint. After years of showing off his skills to no one at talent shows, he achieved stardom. Yun-Jin Lee, a producer at Mighteouse One Entertainment, recruited Ji-Woon into her training program and became a Trainee. He was moved to a dormitory in Seoul where, for fourteen hours a day, he was transformed into a K-idol, taught how to move and sing, how to carry himself with the right balance of confidence and modesty. As grueling as the process was, it worked. Yun-Jin selected Ji-Woon to join the boy group NO SPIN, bringing a raw energy to their tracks. Fame was almost immediate. Ji-Woon lived in a daze of interviews and adoration, and although the hectic schedule exhausted his groupmates, he was invigorated. Every day was an affirmation that he was greater than the mediocrity that society spewed out. But over time, the champagne became stale. When he looked at his fans, he saw their joy and envy divided into five directions, diminished between each member of the group. The validation that came through him left a desperate desire for more. Ji-Woon maintained the impressions, imitating a charm long buried beneath the hatred.
History II.
He recorded NO SPIN's latest album with his bandmates, never missing a beat. After a long lunch break, he returned to the studio to discover that fate had bestowed upon him a gift. The smell of burning wires was unmistakable. He rushed to the control room, finding the door blocked by fallen speakers. On the other side, his fellow musicians banged on the door, their screams accompanied by the crackling of flames. Ji-Woon called out to them, running to the speakers, grabbing one and - stopping. He froze. Each breath was a conscious, deliberate process that demanded his full attention, the nearby screams barely audible until, slowly, he backed away. And then he listened. They screamed his name as they burned. Screaming for him to save them. Ji-Woon! Ji-Woon! Ji-Woon Hak! It was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. When the fire crew arrived, his tears were genuine. Ji-Woon was celebrated as a tragic figure, a hero who did everything he could in a futile attempt to save his "friends". Yun-Jin paraded him through interviews until it was time to rebrand. He was reborn as The Trickster, a solo artist who produced his own songs, boasting a soft heart beneath a wild exterior. But, far from the concert setups and television stages, something darker grew. He targeted those who lived alone, coming to them at night. The first was a university music student with a captivating voice. Ji-Woon attacked him with a baseball bat to the skull, tying his arms and legs, gagging him with a cloth tube stuffed in his mouth. He tortured him for hours, dissecting him alive. Yet there was something missing - a sound, a connection. He wanted to hear the victim's wonderful voice begging as he cut into her belly, but all he received were muffled screams through a cloth. He learned and adjusted. The victims had to be kidnapped and taken to an abandoned building, where he could let their voices convey unbridled emotions. He made music with them, poking them in just
History III.
During a particularly audacious plea for attention, he killed a fan he had met during a VIP gathering, replacing her eyes with his diamond cufflinks and writing "I SAW GOD" in blood on her chest. Every scene was a dazzling spectacle. Between music and murder, Ji-Woon's work was discussed globally. However, as violence became his preferred art style, his music career took a hit. Revenue fell and Mighthe One executives pointed the finger at him. Yun-Jin, with professional fury, came to his defense, but she was outnumbered. It was decided that Ji-Woon could no longer produce his songs on his own. The decision was devastating. His tracks fused genuine humanity with music, but executives rejected anything that wasn't generic and expected. And so be it. If they couldn't understand his art, he would incorporate them until they understood. He had three months until he performed a private show for Mighthe One's board members; three months to plan his magnum opus. He transferred obscene amounts of money to a veterinarian in exchange for canisters of nitrous oxide, and then bribed the stage technician at Mighthe One's private theater to gain access to the room. His celebrity granted him the benefit of the doubt that no normal person could conceive of. When the show was ready, gas leaked into the room as executives and stagehands waited for Ji-Woon, who was conveniently late. When he arrived, semi-conscious bodies were sprawled across their seats and crawling across the floor. He worked quickly, tying everyone up, stopping only when he reached Yun-Jin - the woman who pulled him out of a mud hole and set him on the path he deserved. She would be rewarded, with special access to the next display of admiration. Even under sedation, she fought, a storm raging inside her, much stronger than the others.
History V.
He supported her as the only audience member, opening her eyes. The others, crying and whimpering, were brought onto the stage to perform their final act. With a despicable smile, he applied makeup to their faces and illuminated them with stage lights. They became her instruments. To the sound of self-produced melodies, he tortured them, running gracefully from one body to another, leading to an operatic crescendo with his wails. They screamed, they whimpered, they screamed, they cried for their loved ones, they cried for their mothers. It was a magnificent display of emotion, of what it meant to be human, and they did it with their eyes fixed on Ji-Woon. The viscera disappeared from the stage until, with the throw of his knife, the last human instrument fell silent and the music stopped. Covered in sweat and blood, an exhausted Ji-Woon looked at Yun-Jin and bowed. Curtain call. He achieved perfection. With blade in hand, he walked up to Yun-Jin, prepared to tie up loose ends before the credits rolled. But when he reached her - The Mist. From where, he didn't know, but it billowed around them, damp, cool...comfortable. He saw the grand sstage.
