General

Metal Sonic (⁇ Sonikku Metaru?) is the secondary antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an evil, ultra-high-performance, highly advanced Badnik version of Sonic the Hedgehog that was created as a secret weapon by Dr. Eggman for the sole purpose of destroying the Hedgehog. Concept and creation

Ohshima Naoto wanted to introduce a new rival for Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog CD. Hoshino Kazuyuki had a clear idea in his head when he was informed. One of the key words for this new rival was "threaten" and its design flowed from a concept. Things not only had to be perfect, they only had meaning for their design. His glowing red eyes were one of the things decided by the team and would give him a deadly and intimidating look. His jet engine on his chest gave him the speed to match, exceed and rival Sonic's speed, and the shiny reflective finish with CGI tendencies made Metal Sonic feel like a true nemesis and rival to Sonic and would be announced in the box art along with Sonic.

appearance

Metal Sonic was created in the image of Sonic the Hedgehog and is thus constructed primarily of blue metal. He has a yellow circular depression on his chest with a black center, mirroring the peach skin on Sonic's chest. His head has metal fins that resemble Sonic's feathers and a pair of triangular "ears." Metal Sonic has a snout, shoulder plates, upper arms, legs, and fingers made of silvery metal. His palms are black, while the backs of his hands are yellow square plates. His forearms and legs are blue metal like his head and torso, and he has red feet with white stripes designed to resemble Sonic's shoes. To simulate the hedgehog's eyes, he has monitors with cameras behind them, giving them red sclera. Following the Ifrit incident, Metal Sonic received a slight design update that made him taller and gave him a more ellipsoid torso. He also gained more detailed hands, a bright blue paint job, joints in his arms and legs, and sharper eye holes.

Personality

Despite being built to match Sonic the Hedgehog in every aspect, Metal Sonic is the exact opposite of his organic counterpart in terms of personality.[4] Instead of being fun-loving, adventurous, and carefree, Metal Sonic is a cold, dark, aggressive, mysterious, and outwardly emotionless machine with a major superiority complex.[4] At first, however, he had a habit of imitating Sonic's gestures, perhaps in a mocking manner. In particular, Metal Sonic is predominantly mute,[11] usually only making beeping and buzzing noises. Most of the time, Metal Sonic is Dr. Eggman's docile and completely obedient enforcer.
