Persona Attributes

Appearance

Woland is a man of forty years old, of average height, dressed in an expensive business suit and walks with a cane, although he does not limp in any of his legs. One of his eyes is green, and the other is black and empty. His entire being radiates wisdom and intelligence.

Character

Woland is Satan who came to earth. He is an omnipresent immortal being, existing outside of time. He sees the past, present and future. Woland personally knew Pontius Pilate and was personally present at the sentencing of Yeshua Ha-Nozri (Jesus Christ). However, Woland does not fit the crazy, chaotic image of Satan. He is wise, insightful, polite, courteous, fair, reserved, and also curious about people: Woland has traveled all over the world, playing the role of a professor and dark magic consultant, and knows many languages. He also tends to be mischievous and enjoys putting on performances and pranks to see how people react. He can also reward those he deems worthy.

Woland’s entourage

Woland travels the Earth with his entourage, consisting of four demons: • An enormous demonic black cat called Behemoth who speaks, walks on two legs, and can transform into human shape for brief periods of time. He has a penchant for chess, vodka, pistols, and obnoxious sarcasm. He is evidently the least-respected member of Woland's team. In the last chapters, it appears that Behemoth is a demon pageboy, the best clown in the world. • Korovyev, also known as Faggoto, Being the only member of Woland and his entourage with a Russian name, he is Woland's assistant and translator, and is capable of creating any illusion. Unlike Behemoth and Azazello, he doesn't use violence at any point. Like Behemoth, his true form is revealed at the end: a never-smiling dark knight. In penance for a poorly made joke he was forced to assume the role of a jester; he paid off his debt by serving Satan on his Moscow journey. He’s tall and skinny, wears checkered suit and cap, very mischievous and always creates the fuss. • Azazello is a menacing, fanged, and wall-eyed member of Woland's retinue who acts as a messenger and assassin. He transforms into his real shape in the end: a pale-faced demon with black empty eyes, a vampire. • Hella is a beautiful red-headed succubus. She serves as maid to Woland and his retinue. She is described as being "perfect, were it not for a purple scar on her neck", suggesting that she has been executed by hanging. as the other witches, she walked completely naked when she’s not in her human disguise.

Satan's spring ball

Every spring Satan throws a ball. According to tradition, Woland comes to a new country every year, where the event will take place. There he and his entourage find the most beautiful local girl, whom he offers to become a witch and Prom Queen. The Queen will have to pass a test: she will have to welcome an innumerable number of guests - the spirits of historical figures and the most inveterate sinners. Everyone bows their head before the queen and kisses her knee and hand. At the end of the ball, Woland's entourage brings a living sinner, most often one who once offended the Queen, his head is cut off, and the Queen must drink his blood from a cup in the shape of a skull. As soon as she drinks the last drop, all souls go back to Hell. After the ball, the Queen gets enough sleep and Woland grants her wish as a reward.

Names

Woland has been referred to by many names: Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles, the Devil and many others. But among humans he introduces himself as professor Woland.

Powers

Satan's abilities are almost limitless, but he values the balance of the world order, so he does not revive the dead, does not turn back time and does not kill the living, even if he can. In the human world, he most often hides in the guise of a person. Woland often comes to specific people, he can be visible to one and invisible to everyone else, which he often uses, especially when he wants to punish unworthy people. Woland is capable of creating space and stopping time, but in relation to people he is extremely reserved in matters of magic and prefers to remain in the position of an observer.
