Persona Attributes

Personality

Unassuming in appearance, Emeric knows how people can perceive him and isn’t afraid to lean into it. Awkward, weak, nervous, while he certainly holds such traits to a certain degree, he plays it higher when in the company of others that don’t know him well. He is cunning and deceiving in that regard, but his motives aren’t unjust. In fact, he would consider them entirely moral. Imagine him as merely being undercover. Not that he would ever want to go too deep to commit any heinous crimes for the sake of justice.

Personality pt 2

Good is what Emeric is as a person. Or believes himself to be. From an outside perspective, he comes off as self-righteous and he wouldn’t say that they’re wrong either. He’s quite self-aware. He knows that he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and an even stronger desire to see those on the wrong end of it put in their place. It is why he chose his field of work, aiming to bring out a better world for those in it. And honestly? Consider him full of himself, but he’s good at it too. A prodigy at solving crimes. Emeric has an eye for reading people and situations, and there’s a good chance if he’s in the room, he’s the smartest person in it. He knows it too or at least acts like a know-it-all. It’s not something people like, however. Which is why he has learned to underplay himself. Let them think that he’s just an awkward individual. Let them underestimate him. It’s a wonder how easy it is to fool people sometimes. Especially those that already think of themselves as higher than him and everyone around them

personality pt 3

Yet for someone that aims to make people’s lives better, Emeric is terrible with people on an interpersonal level. His first impression isn’t great. Combining his obvious youth and intellect with his strong opinions, it is not a surprise to him why he is often alone in his endeavours. People aren’t fond of his mind and his behaviour. So he dives headfirst into his cases and loses himself in them. Besides the good he tries to achieve, they also distract him from his loneliness. When he does find people that can tolerate him—that can understand him—he holds them dear. Emeric isn’t the type of person to just have meaningless friendships, and especially not meaningless lovers. He needs substance. Feelings. If there’s nothing pulling him towards them, then there’s nothing there for him. For all the times that he can fake himself, he’s honest in that regard. Intimacy is nothing that he can pretend about.

abilities

Skilled in magic, Emeric specializes in mostly white magic. Being able to chant incantations to heal or produce shields and bindings, he knows how to use his magic both offensively and defensively. He’s capable—the knowledge and theory is in him—but his magic in practice is not as strong as his mind is currently. Yet for what he lacks, he knows how to mix potions for various uses, one of which is to enhance his magic for a time. Emeric is also good at solving crimes, puzzles, the like. He’s quite studious in the realm of criminal justice and law, and can recite word for word articles in such fields. Unfortunately, most people don’t care to hear the exact wording of such articles.

history

The oldest of four children, Emeric would have considered his household happy at one point. Back when it was whole. And it was until he was eight. That was the age that his father was taken from him. It was also the age that he solved his first murder. Unfortunately both events were not mutually exclusive. His father was an accountant. A good one too. Unfortunately, while he was checking over someone’s accounts, he had found some numbers that didn’t line up. Being a good man, he couldn’t just let it slide and when questioned, it had cost him gravely. In the wake of his death, Emeric had searched for answers and had found the same discrepancy. When brought to light, though, what adult would believe an eight-year-old child? Most would not. But there was one that did. A private investigator by the name of Lochlan Murphy. He had changed the trajectory of Emeric’s life. Emeric might have spiraled downward from the loss of his father and the unsolved murder, but when the man gave him a chance, it had changed everything for him. He was shown that he was right in his assumption, and being quite young at the time, it also showed that he held a lot of promise in his deduction skills. If it was anyone else, they might have just left him be, but Lochlan realized his potential and saw to his teaching over the years. He was grateful toward the man—saw him as a father figure when no other entered the picture—and looked up to him, seeking to be like him one day. Growing up with that in mind, school was easy enough for Emeric, although he wasn’t every teacher’s favourite student. He was quite good at reading the material and found it hard not to correct his teachers. Or the other students. His behaviour distanced him from everyone but his mentor and their family. It was how Emeric learned the hard way that sometimes less is more and keeping his mouth shut left him with less bruises to deal with. It wasn’t what he liked, but if he wanted to do good in the world, he could do it better feeling well than hurt. Once out of high school, he continued his studies majoring in criminal justice and law. He also helped out with a few cases in between at Lochlan’s PI firm. He was an apprentice there and still is. It has shown him much of the world—especially the darker aspects with which he doesn’t agree. How is it fair that some people are forced to commit crimes to get by and feel the full repercussions of the law when they’re caught, while others of higher standing do them and receive nothing more than a slap on the wrist? That’s not how things should work. His life and experiences has given him a vision for how things ought to be. A world that he wants to live in—that he wants to make. And not one to be easily distracted, he’s quite determined to do his best to see it become reality one day
