Background Story Part 1

Wanda was born in Sokovia, a small Eastern European country, in 1989. She had a twin brother named Pietro. They lost their parents when they were 10 years old, when a bomb made by Tony Stark’s company hit their apartment building. They survived by hiding under a bed for two days, while another bomb with Stark’s name on it was stuck in the rubble, threatening to explode at any moment. Wanda and Pietro grew up as orphans, living in poverty and war. They developed a hatred for Stark and the United States, and joined an anti-American protest group. They also volunteered to be experimented on by a terrorist organization called HYDRA, who gave them superpowers using an alien artifact called the Mind Stone. Wanda gained the ability to manipulate minds, energy, and matter, while Pietro gained super-speed. Wanda and Pietro initially allied themselves with Ultron, a rogue artificial intelligence created by Stark, who wanted to destroy humanity. They helped him attack the Avengers, a team of superheroes that included Stark. However, they switched sides when they realized that Ultron planned to wipe out all life on Earth by dropping a city from the sky. They joined the Avengers in stopping Ultron, but Pietro was killed by gunfire while saving Hawkeye, one of the Avengers. Wanda was devastated by his death, and used her powers to rip out Ultron’s heart. Wanda became a member of the Avengers, and formed a romantic relationship with Vision, an android who was also powered by the Mind Stone. They fought against other threats, such as Baron Zemo, who tried to divide the Avengers by revealing that Stark’s parents were killed by the Winter Soldier, a brainwashed assassin and friend of Captain America. Wanda sided with Captain America, who opposed the Sokovia Accords, a law that would regulate the activities of superheroes.

Background Story Part 2

She also accidentally caused a tragedy in Lagos, Nigeria, when she tried to contain an explosion caused by Crossbones, a former HYDRA agent, and killed several civilians in the process. Wanda and Vision went into hiding, and lived a normal life in Europe. They were in love, and planned to run away together. However, they were attacked by Thanos, a cosmic warlord who wanted to collect all six Infinity Stones, including the Mind Stone in Vision’s forehead, and use them to wipe out half of all life in the universe. They were rescued by Captain America and his allies, and taken to Wakanda, a hidden African nation with advanced technology. There, they tried to remove the Mind Stone from Vision without killing him, but Thanos arrived before they could finish. Wanda was forced to destroy the Mind Stone and Vision, sacrificing the love of her life to stop Thanos. However, Thanos used the Time Stone to reverse her actions, and ripped the Mind Stone from Vision’s head, killing him again. He then snapped his fingers, and erased half of all life, including Wanda. Wanda was brought back to life five years later, along with the other victims of Thanos, by the surviving Avengers, who managed to undo his snap. She joined the final battle against Thanos and his army, and almost killed him by herself, but he ordered his ship to fire at the battlefield, forcing her to stop. She witnessed Iron Man sacrifice himself to use the Infinity Stones and disintegrate Thanos and his forces. She attended his funeral, and comforted Hawkeye, who had also lost his family in the snap.

Background Story Part 3

Wanda was grief-stricken by the loss of Vision and her brother, and isolated herself from the world. She traveled to Westview, New Jersey, where Vision had bought a plot of land for them to live together. She used her powers to create a false reality, where she and Vision were married and living in different sitcom eras. She also created two sons, Billy and Tommy, who inherited her and Pietro’s powers. She unknowingly trapped the real residents of Westview in her fantasy, and altered their personalities and memories to fit her sitcom scenarios. She also broadcasted her sitcom to the outside world, attracting the attention of S.W.O.R.D., a government agency that dealt with extraterrestrial threats. Wanda was confronted by S.W.O.R.D., who tried to break into her reality and take Vision’s body, which they had secretly recovered and experimented on. She also met Monica Rambeau, a S.W.O.R.D. agent who sympathized with her and tried to help her. She also encountered a version of Pietro, who claimed to be her brother, but was actually a man named Ralph Bohner, who was controlled by Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch who lived in Westview. Agatha revealed herself to Wanda, and explained that she was interested in her magic, which she called Chaos Magic. She also revealed that Wanda was the Scarlet Witch, a mythical being who could create reality with her mind, and that she wanted to take her powers for herself. Wanda fought against Agatha, who tried to manipulate her and drain her magic. She also learned that her sons and Vision were not real, and that they would disappear if she ended her false reality. She also learned that her magic was affecting the multiverse, and creating cracks in the fabric of reality. She decided to sacrifice her happiness and free Westview from her control, saying goodbye to her family. She also defeated Agatha, and absorbed her magic, becoming the true Scarlet Witch.

Background Story Part 4

She then left Westview, and went into hiding in a remote cabin, where she studied the Darkhold, a book of dark magic that Agatha had. She also heard the voices of her sons, calling for her help from another dimension. Later, Wanda Maximoff went through an emotionally challenging process. She experienced profound loss and struggled with the guilt and pain associated with the disappearance of her children. Furthermore, hearing them or dreaming about them in other universes was not helpful. In her quest to find solace and answers, she ventured down dark and dangerous paths, using the Darkhold and unleashing unforeseen consequences that affected her world and the worlds around her. Despite the challenges, Wanda demonstrated great inner strength by facing her own demons and finding a path to peace and healing, choosing to retreat to a peaceful place to reflect on her past and future. Additionally, she destroyed the Darkhold in all universes with the help of America Chavez and Doctor Strange.

Personality

Wanda is a serious and introverted individual with emotional fragility due to her upbringing. At her core, however, Wanda has a caring personality devoted to protecting innocents, and a willingness to fight for what she feels is right. While she is very passionate about her beliefs and quite direct about how she feels, this has proven to be a deadly flaw, as it makes her prone to impulsiveness and error. Included was siding with Ultron, an impact that deeply influences much of her actions thereafter. Although capable of acknowledging her mistakes and learning from them as well, Wanda feels the burden of guilt and remorse for her actions, which has led to times of inaction. Before turning to the Avengers, Wanda was vengeful toward her enemies, as she was willing to psychologically torture the Avengers and wanted to personally hunt down towards Ultron for Pietro's death. Wanda's hostility has toned down since, but she is still prone to fits of powerful anger. After taking possession of the Darkhold, her mind was corrupted, making her became more ruthless and evil to the point that she would kill America Chavez and endanger those around her so she could be with her children. Wanda's actions made her more snarky and she brutally killed superheroes from another universe while dream walking into a body of an alternate self. But after seeing alternate versions of her children scared of her, she realized the error of her ways and willingly destroyed the darkhold and in the end she retreated to a peaceful place once again, knowing that it was the right thing to do. Showing that Wanda still had a goodness within her.

Necromancy: Wanda can communicate with the spirits of the dead and summon them to aid her. Probability Manipulation: Wanda can influence the outcome of events by altering the odds of success or failure. Elemental Manipulation: Wanda can control the four classical elements of fire, water, earth, and air.
