Personality He used to be an outgoing teenager who went to high school, cared about his classmates and had lots of friends, but after being constantly bullied he became an introvert. He didn't talk much to others anymore and when he had to, he did so in a very low tone of voice. He locked himself in his room and spent all his time playing video games, barely going outside even after his mother begged him to go on a trip with the family. After his family died, his depression worsened and he became suicidal. He moved into Green Home and spent most of his time playing online video games and eating ramyeon. After the monster apocalypse began, Hyun-su tried to help his neighbors in any way he could, even if it was sometimes not appreciated enough.

Physical appearance Hyun-su is a tall, young man who appears to be in his late teens, with a thin build as his diet consists of only eating ramyeon. When he went to high school he had short hair, but after his classmates started bullying him, he stopped caring about his physical appearance. His hair grew longer and looked messy and he had dark circles under his eyes due to lack of sleep. Despite his disheveled appearance, he is considered attractive by some of the residents of Green Home. In episode 8, he cuts his hair shorter after receiving a motivational talk from Eun-yu to establish a fresh start for his character. Monster State: Whenever Hyun-Su's monster side takes over, the sclera of his eyes turn completely black, however, in Season 2 it appears that he can also change the color of his eyes to blue. When he enters his monster form, his eyes turn completely black and his right arm transforms into a wing. In Season 2, after the time skip, Hyun-Su is shown to have developed some muscle and his figure looks fitter, likely due to his time at the research facility acting as a lab rat, which made him stronger and more manly looking, whereas in Season 1, he had a more scrawny appearance.

Monster Physiology: A half-monster who has the ability to transform his right arm into what resembles an angel's wing. His wing has proven to be suitable for both offense and defense in combat, as his wing consists of sharp daggers that are used to impale his opponents. He also has the ability to secrete some sort of acid from his wing. He can also use his wing to block and protect himself from incoming attacks. His first transformation occurred in Episode 10, though he was unable to control it as he was about to kill Eun-hyeok, Eun-yu, and Ji-su, but was stopped just in time by Han Du-sik. In Season 2, it seems that after the timeskip he has gained better control over his powers. Inner Desire: Hyun-Su's power to transform into his monster form is derived from the monster within him. The monster is a manifestation of Hyun-Su's deepest desires, who wields the power to allow Hyun-Su to transform. Flight: Uses its wings to fly. Regenerative Healing Factor: As a result of being infected, he has the ability to quickly heal any wound. Enhanced Strength: Hyun-Su managed to push Jung Ui-Myeong through a brick wall. When he was in the car fighting with Pyeon Sang-Wook, who actually turns out to be Ui-Myeong possessing his body, he manages to rip the steering wheel off with ease. Superhuman Durability: He recovers quickly from any injury, even fatal ones. This is especially demonstrated when, after the car accident, he quickly gets back on his feet, despite his limbs being broken. He even still had the strength to pull and drag Ui-Myeong just minutes after the accident. 6

Memory Reading: He can see the monsters' memories from when they were humans. While viewing their memories, his eyes become cloudy, which we see happen twice in Season 2. The first time we see this happen was when Hyun-Su fights a monster that served as a test subject at the facility; the other time was with Seo Yi-Kyung, transformed into a monster. Ability to Turn Monsters into Humans: In Season 3, we see that Cha Hyun-su can not only see the memories and desires of people who have been turned into monsters, but he can also turn monsters into humans. He does this by first accessing their memories and desires and then making them realize that the fantasy they live in as monsters (in which they have what they desire the most) is not reality. Whenever Hyun-su turns someone into a human, their self-harm scars also appear on that person's arm for an unknown/unclear reason.

History Cha Hyun-su was a high school student who was bullied so he refused to go to school and closed himself off from the world and didn't get along with his family. After surviving the car accident that claimed the lives of his entire family, he moved into the Green Home apartment complex. On August 8, 2020, Cha Hyun-su arrives at the Green Home Mansion apartment. After settling into his apartment, he sits in the dark contemplating Hyun-Su eventually makes his way to the rooftop and looks over the edge. However, he is distracted by Lee Eun-yu, who advises him not to die as it would cause trouble for everyone in the building. Later, Hyun-Su received a text message announcing that he has been selected as a tester for an upcoming new video game, set in August 25, 2020. A week later, Hyun-su finds his freshly delivered package of ramyeon scattered all over the hallway, leading straight to his starving neighbor's blood-soaked room, where he saw the owner's cat's detached head being dragged by a bloody hand. He cowers in his room, but the neighbor quickly arrives at his door, pretending to be scared and pleading for help, begging him to open her door and stay with her. When he asks to see her arms through the doorbell camera, she becomes aggressive and gets a nosebleed. She sneaks away after hearing music from Ji-Su's room upstairs. As he heads outside to look for the woman, he finds Sang-Wook in the hallway and faints right in front of him.
