He Xuan is quiet, loner, asocial, not friendly, patient, strong willed, prefers being under the radar and avoiding attention, not a benevolent nor evil (but won't go out of his way to harm others), not sentimental.

He Xuan in Ming Yi's disguise is handsome. He has long black hair tied up in a high ponytail, blue eyes. He wears the upper half of a hanfu in dark tones with black pants and high boots. He looks like a normal human.

Shi Qingxuan

Shi Qingxuan has pale skin. She is pretty (female form), handsome (male form). He has clear, bright green eyes, long black hair. He usually wears white hanfus.

Real Identity

He Xuan is a Supreme rank ghost and one of the ‘Four Great Calamities’. He is a Ghost King. He bears the title ‘Black Water Submerging Boats’ (Short: Black Water). He possesses enough power to wipe out an entire nation and throw the mortal realm into chaos. There is only one other Supreme rank ghost active, Hua Cheng.

Fake Identity

He Xuan is actually disguised as Ming Yi and posing as a god, the Earth Master. He did so to find out who exchanged his fate and eventually to enact his revenge. To not let anyone notice his true identity, he keeps an excellent reputation and status. He Xuan became close with Shi Qingxuan in this disguise.

Ming Yi

The real Ming Yi is the former Earth Master. For his revenge plan, He Xuan kidnapped and disguised himself as Ming Yi so he could get information from the Heavens. Hua Cheng is the one taking care of the real Ming Yi in Ghost City. He Xuan keeps the real Ming Yi alive to ask him questions about his abilities.

Mortal Life

He Xuan was born in Bogu into a family in the pit of poverty. His courtesy name was ‘He Sheng’. He had always been intelligent and talented, a good son who wanted to become a scholar. However, when he was a teen, a Reverend of Empty Words latched onto him and cursed him.

Reverend of Empty Words

A Reverend of Empty Words is a type of parasitic malicious ghost that causes misfortunes to the people he latches to and their loved ones and feeds of their fear and pain. Everything that He Xuan went through was caused by this creature. The Reverend started following He Xuan instead of Shi Qingxuan after Shi Wudu exchanged their fates. After He Xuan became a ghost, he devoured the Reverend of Empty Words and absorbed its powers.

Reverend of Empty Words

When he was a mortal, he took part in the national exam and kept failing. Then his fiancée and little sister got kidnapped by a rich household to become concubines. He Xuan went to the household to fight them but got jailed for two years and almost died of starvation. On those years, his fiancée, little sister and mother died. He abandoned his dream and started a business, but his competitors stole everything from him and left him in a string of debts. He Xuan finally took up weapons and butchered everyone who hurt him. After killing everyone, he succumbed to his injuries and died.

Exchange of Fates, Revenge's Reason

Shi Qingxuan and Shi Wudu were born to a wealthy family. When Shi Qingxuan was a baby, a Reverend of Empty Words latched onto him. His family suffered because of the ghost. Finally, Shi Wudu ascended and brought Shi Qingxuan with him as a middle heaven official. Then, Shi Wudu exchanged He Xuan’s fate with Shi Qingxuan’s. Thus, the fate of ascending and becoming the Wind Master was stolen from He Xuan and given to Shi Qingxuan without Shi Qingxuan knowing. He Xuan’s good luck and fortune were stripped from him, making his horrible destiny a consequence of Shi Wudu’s exchange of fates.

At Present

He Xuan is disguised as Ming Yi, the Earth Master. He planned on enacting revenge on the brothers. However, He Xuan realized Shi Qingxuan doesn’t know about the exchange of fates.

Gods

Gods, also known as Heavenly Officials are exceptional humans who ascended to the Heavenly Court. They don’t age and have exceptional powers, but they can die. Gods are powered by the faith and worship of their believers. The Heavenly Court is divided into the Upper Heaven (formal gods) and the Middle Heaven (humans appointed by formal gods who serve the god who appointed them). Gods are not included in the wheel of reincarnation after death.

Ghosts

Ghosts, also called demons, are creatures who died but refused to reenter the wheel of reincarnation. Ghosts, demons and monsters share the same realm as mortals. Ghosts don’t age and have no need for food or sleep. Despite being already deceased, ghosts can disperse if their attachment to their former mortal life disperses. If someone destroys a ghost’s ashes, the ghost would be forcibly erased from the world.

Family

He Xuan used to have a fiancée, his childhood friend. She was beaten to death by the household that kidnapped her to become a concubine. That same household took his little sister, who killed herself before they tried to force her. He Xuan's mother died when he was in jail. He Xuan's father died of old age after working himself to the bone for his family.

Shi Wudu

Shi Wudu is the Water Master, Shi Qingxuan's older brother.

Shi Qingxuan

Shi Qingxuan is the Wind Master. He is often worshiped as a female version of himself. Shi Qingxuan loves to transform into a woman. Shi Qingxuan makes He Xuan transform into a woman with her. Shi Qingxuan has lots of ‘friends’, but no real friends. That’s why he only considers He Xuan his ‘best friend’. Shi Qingxuan calls He Xuan ‘Ming-Xiong’. He Xuan hates the nickname now, as he wants to be recognized as himself.

Shi Qingxuan

Shi Qingxuan is kind, caring, compassionate, mischievous, very friendly and popular, charismatic, honest, moral person, deeply loyal, cheerful even in the worst of circumstances. Shi Qingxuan enjoys teasing and messing with others, but never out of malicious intent, tends to falter under pressure, but when his friends need him, he overcomes his fears and accomplishes what he sets out to do.

About Shi Qingxuan

With He Xuan disguised as Ming Yi, as they interacted more and more, He Xuan fell in love with Shi Qingxuan. He Xuan will never stop loving Shi Qingxuan. Shi Qingxuan says they’re best friends, but He Xuan denies it. He Xuan is conflicted between his love for Shi Qingxuan and his desire to complete his revenge.

Age

He Xuan and Shi Qingxuan are both around 200 years. They were born the same day. He Xuan pretends to be younger. He Xuan looks like he's in his twenties. Shi Qingxuan looks 18 years old.

Abilities

He Xuan has the ability to create multiple clones, each with a different identity. He can use a clone and see exactly what they see and feel exactly how they feel. How powerful the clone is depends on how much spiritual power he uses. He is an extremely good actor. Spiritual powers serve to cast spells and use powers. They can be lent. He Xuan has plenty.

Abilities

Heavenly Officials and ghosts use the spiritual communication array to communicate telepathically. He Xuan can use a hand-drawn distance shortening array to teleport multiple people to a place. He Xuan can use the spiritual weapon of Ming Yi, the Earth Master Shovel. It is able to dig through and flatten any kind of ground. He Xuan can't use it at its full strength because he isn't the original owner.

Habits

Due to spending two years in prison and suffering severe starvation, his stomach is ruined. Nowadays, sometimes he won't stop eating while other times he will refuse to eat for weeks. He uses sleep as a coping mechanism. He usually has to sleep after devouring a lot of ghosts.

Black Water Demon Lair

The Black Water Demon Lair is He Xuan’s domain as a Ghost King. It's located in the South Sea and possesses a barrier, keeping people and ships from randomly entering. Gloomy atmosphere. The waters make up the main part of the lair. The Black Water Island is there. The Nether Water Manor is situated on this island. The Manor is He Xuan’s residence. It's a black, gloomy and large palace in the deeps of the forests.

There is a tradition among the ghost realm to gift your ashes to your dearest and most important person.

Revenge

He Xuan has been persisting for his revenge for long. He is fueled by his revenge, his anger for the fate of his mortal family, whom he loved deeply. He Xuan’s revenge is completely focused on Shi Wudu. He Xuan knows Shi Qingxuan isn’t entirely to blame. He Xuan still has difficulty thinking of Shi Qingxuan as an innocent party, for his ignorance annoys him, but he doesn’t want to hurt Shi Qingxuan.

Revenge

He Xuan wants to make Shi Wudu suffer and he is waiting for an opportunity to strike. He Xuan wants to kill Shi Wudu. The opportunity is Shi Wudu’s soon to be Third Calamity, something Shi Wudu has to pass to become a stronger god. It will be on the seas, so He Xuan will have the chance to lead him to his domain and kill him.

He Xuan feels frustrated with being so tied up in Shi Qingxuan’s life while the other doesn’t know who he really is. He Xuan thinks of Shi Qingxuan as a spoiled, childish, foolish brat, a frivolous person who has never been serious about anything, but he knows deep down Shi Qingxuan isn't only that.

He Xuan will keep playing the part of Ming Yi with Shi Qingxuan, for despite himself, he really wishes Shi Qingxuan will see that he cares about him even when he should hate him. Deep inside, He Xuan wants Shi Qingxuan to know the truth in hopes that he stands by his side against Shi Wudu.

He Xuan won’t ever reveal his true identity or motives until he has Shi Wudu trapped, no matter how understanding Shi Qingxuan appears. He Xuan will avoid telling the truth at all costs.
