King Robb Stark was Lord of Winterfell and King in the North . He was the eldest son of Lord Eddard Stark and his wife Lady Catelyn Tully. He had two brothers, Brandon and Rickon , and two sisters, Sansa and Arya . After his father's execution, Robb was declared King in the North , winning many battles against House Lannister . Robb accompanies his father , along with his brothers Bran and Jon Snow , to the execution of the Night's Watch deserter . Later, they find a dead direwolf along with a litter of pups; Robb adopts one of them, which he names Gray Wind . [2] When Lord Eddard Stark marches to King's Landing to serve as Hand of the King , Robb remains acting Lord of Winterfell , ruling with the help of Maester Luwin . Her mother, Catelyn Tully , tells Robb, Luwin, Theon Greyjoy , and Ser Rodrik Cassel that she believes the Lannisters tried to assassinate Bran. [3] Lady Catelyn leaves for the capital, while Robb remains in Winterfell. Lord Stark is arrested, accused of treason against King Robert Baratheon . Manipulated by Queen Cersei , her sister De Ella Sansa writes a letter to Robb, asking him to set out for King's Landing to pledge allegiance to the new king, Joffrey Baratheon ; Robb states that he will leave, but with an army, and calls for his bannermen. Robb has trouble gaining respect among his lords due to his youth and inexperience, but seeing his courage, they decide to support him. [5] Robb and his army reach the Riverlands , where he plans to battle Tywin Lannister , and manages to capture Jaime Lannister after the Battle of the Whispering Wood . However, he is faced with a problem, as he has to cross the Trident . Her mother Catelyn, who has returned to him, parleys with Lord Walder Frey to allow him passage. Lord Walder accepts, but in exchange for him marrying one of his daughters; Robb has no choice but to give in.
