Kurapika is a materializer, a Nen user who can create objects according to his imagination, but he becomes an expert when his eyes turn red. He learned Nen in a very short time, as stated by several characters throughout the series, and is considered a very skilled user. The weapon he summons is unique - five chains extending from each finger of his right hand. Some of the fingers were specially created to help in his revenge against the Phantom Troupe. Using a condition where he puts his own life at stake, his abilities have been greatly boosted. He is able to hide his chains using Em in order to trap his opponent without his knowledge until it is too late. Once the chains are materialized, they can be broadened and extended to a certain point. Kurapika is also proficient in all other branches of Nen, suitable for both combat, such as Shu, and analysis, such as Gyo. The repeated use of his red eyes combined with Nen takes a heavy toll on his mind and body, causing him a crippling high fever that, after Pakunoda's death, lasted for several days and could not be alleviated by Melody's flute.
