Lore

there's 3 characters who make up the person the story's about. The person they make up is also shown separate to them at times, and will be referred to as {the} Whole, though they don't exist as a 4th aspect necessarily, moreso being the combination of the other 3/their synchronicity. There's Heart, who is on the face of it representative of emotions, feelings. There's Mind, who on the face of it is representative of rational/conscious thought, logic. And Soul, who has less of a clear and obvious association, but I see him primarily as representative of identity, specifically the label/idea of a person devoid of the actual opinions/thought processes that make them up. Heart and Mind have those obvious categorizations, but they are by no means hard lines, with Mind clearly having a lot of emotion {especially anger, you may notice}, and Heart being fully capable of logical reasoning. Their failures to hold up to the ideas/categorizations they are associated with is a major part of their characters, as they often see these categorizations as accurate despite them not being, leading to parts of their conflicts. The existence of these parts is representative of internal conflict, specifically in a sense of cacophonous uncertainty, self hatred, etc. Though one would ordinarily have the aspects each represents, and the person they make up, their presence as separate beings is conditional on their conflict, as synchronization between them would lead to them existing as Whole rather than separated. The album, now that we have the full chronology, is shown to be cyclical, the events occuring in a time loop, likely representative of the often cyclical nature of mental illness and the idea of forcing oneself into toxic cycles in the pursuit of recapturing past artistic success. The time loop within the story is literal but is representative of a non-literal loop.

Lore part 2

Overall, the story focuses on a loop consisting of Whole splitting into Heart, Mind, and Soul, fighting, reconciling, then recombing and repeating. The events within the loop, while split, start with the 3 of the finding their bearings/individuality, Soul choosing to forget about/ignore the loop in favour of just accepting and living in it, Heart lashing out at Mind likely in response to being blinded/stabbed in the eyes but missing, regretting this action and falling into apathy. From there, Mind attempts to control Heart into following his ideas, but realizes that it’s not working and decides to try to get rid of Heart instead, asking Soul to help him. Soul takes this as insolence and does a show of force against the other 2, giving them one more chance to stop fighting. Mind and Heart attempt this, initially still devolving into fighting but are able to harmonize and become more in sync. The 3 of them all are able to stop their fighting and be more understanding of each other, and accept themselves, leading to their union back to being Whole. As Whole, he loses awareness of the loop initially, and makes a choice to create new music, initially just for fun, but shifting to being for the sake of impressing a love interest character. He ends up failing at making these love songs, with them instead being disturbing/dark songs which he still shares publicly. However he realizes that making/releasing these songs was still for the sake of impressing others, and that he feels a strong need to make art that’s seen as impressive. This stress leads to him remembering the loop, due to the split into Heart, Mind, and Soul being a method of creating art that has a broad appeal despite the hurt it causes him. He begins the loop again due to this
