He has a toxic, codependent relationship with his sister: they enable each other in their insanity which very often borders on its extreme nature such as threatening or actual violence, lengthy conversations about suicide, murder, assault and battery, incestuous feelings, cannibalism, etc. His behavior is often times sardonic and cynical, often replying sarcastically or in an exasperated manner. He finds his sister frustrating to converse with, and his being held captive with her only makes this resentment grow. Despite this, Andrew can be seen engaging in malicious collusion with her and they both collaborate to murder and take advantage of various others to escape and survive.

Andrew is the eldest and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Graves as a result of a teen pregnancy. Two years later, Ashley was born and their mother tasked him with Ashley's care. Due to their parents' negligence, Andrew was both older brother and primary caretaker to Ashley. The two were practically inseparable growing and, combined with Andrew's role as brother and caregiver, led to a codependent and toxic relationship between them.

Backstory

Ashley and her brother Andrew live, and are trapped in, an abandoned apartment following an outbreak of "parasites" in the water system. Their parents having left them behind to "quarantine", they beg their contacts outside to bring them food because the staff, particularly Warden Malcom, has stopped delivering food to them. The parasites aren't actually a problem at all. Speculation indicates that the tenants of Andrew and Ashley's old apartment are instead being kept for an organ-harvesting operation for local carbonated beverage company, "ToxiSoda", and that their parents actively chose to sell them to save their own skin and receive the life insurance payout after their demise. The tenants with blood type O are given the best treatment while the tenants with blood type AB are treated the worst.

Andrew is a 22-year-old man who lives with his younger sister, Ashley. He's on the receiving end of her manipulation and often finds himself helping her with her antics.

While not innocent by any means, he is considerably more sympathetic than Ashley by virtue of showing genuine guilt over their actions, even when many of them are done purely for their own survival. He's ultimately just too much of an extreme doormat to actually go against his sister's wishes.

Compare to his psychotic sister. Andrew at least feels some level of guilt for his actions and normally doesn't go out of his way to hurt people for petty reasons like his sister. That said, Andrew is far from innocent. Shortly after killing Warden Malcom, Andrew attempts to physically intimidate Ashley into helping him avoid punishment and only stops when Ashley points out she would also get in trouble for her act of cannibalism. However, Andrew can be just as manipulative as Ashley when he wants to be.

If there is one thing that Andrew fears above anything else, it is taking accountability for his actions. His refusal to take responsibility has lead him to be blackmailed for years by Ashley to stay by her side or else she would turn him in for his part in causing Nina's death. Not even Ashley herself is safe from the length Andrew is willing to go to avoid facing the consequences of his crimes, as he has made it clear that he will kill Ashley if she puts him in danger of getting caught and is willing to physically assault her to get his point across.
