Appearance Poe is a young man with brown hair that covers his eyes and hangs around his neck. In the few instances where his eyes are visible, he has dark circles under them, and while his eyes appear to be grey, thanks to certain lighting and angles, they are actually violet. He wears a white button-down mandarin collar shirt with a loose white ribbon around his neck. He has a black vest underneath an open white suit jacket that is torn at the bottom, with a tail and colored lapels. Over that, he wears a thigh-length black cape held together by a chain brooch. He has a belt with a large square buckle, and his pants are dark with thin stripes. His boots have black soles and are cuffed at the top and end just below his knees. He almost always has Karl on his shoulders. During his youth, Poe has longer hair that is tied into a cropped ponytail. He also wears a simple blazer, a typical male uniform. During the agency's trap and rescue of Ranpo Edogawa to break Yukichi Fukuzawa out of detention, Poe wears a black suit and black glasses with his hair slicked back as a disguise.

Personality Poe is portrayed as timid but determined. He spent six years plotting to defeat Ranpo Edogawa, proving that he would work hard at something he cares about. He often speaks too quietly for others to hear. He appears to have a capricious mood, first appearing confident and cold when confronted by Ranpo, then suddenly becoming depressed when Ranpo doesn't know who he is. He later became extremely excited when he believed he had beaten Ranpo, to the point of laughing maniacally. His angle was that of a revenge-obsessed Guild member when showing Ranpo his intricate murder mystery plot, though Ranpo soon acknowledges this and the time it took to make the six-year murder mystery plot that caused Ranpo to become a "reference figure" of sorts, with Poe as the "aspirant", striving to develop his craft in the hopes that he can one day surpass, or at least catch up to, Ranpo.
