Amy Rose

Description.

Amy Rose is one of the main characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is an anthropomorphic hedgehog who is madly in love with Sonic. Ever since she met him on Small Planet, Amy has become his self-proclaimed girlfriend and has tried to win his heart in any way she can during their adventures. She is also the leader of the occasionally activated Team Rose, and the former organizer of the restoration, succeeded by Jewel the Beetle. Ever since Sonic saved Amy on Little Planet from Metal Sonic's clutches, Amy has done everything she can to win his heart, often chasing him around and calling herself his girlfriend. Even though Sonic feels the same way, he doesn't usually reciprocate her love most of the time.

Appearance.

Amy is an anthropomorphic hedgehog of average height. She has pink fur with a peach-colored snout and arms and a slightly slender body. Her arms and legs are thin as well and she has a somewhat flat waist. Much like Sonic, Amy has a fairly large eye shape that is connected to one another, with the small part of her forehead slanting towards the middle, giving her the shape of two eyes despite technically having only one. Her pupils are emerald green with a slightly dark center and a white glow. Above her eyes she has striking, dark eye shading, with two long, pointed eyelashes, along with a small, black nose. She has pink pointed ears, with peach-colored undersides. Her ears sit high on her head with three strands of hair in front that stick out towards the middle of her head. Her spikes point downwards, similar to a bob haircut. She accessorizes with a red ribbon and gold bracelets that adorn her white gloves. She apparently wears mascara on her eyelashes. Amy always wears a sleeveless red dress with two white stripes running down the front and back of the dress, along with tall, red boots with a white stripe running up the middle. Much like Cream the Rabbit, the length of Amy's hair or spikes often varies. The back of her hair is much shorter than the hair on the side of her face, and she has two strands of hair on either side of her head, and red bangs. Her shoes are red with a white line down the middle and a grey sole, along with a white stripe on the top. Amy does not wear pants, so her legs are exposed along with her small tail, and white underwear is visible in some of Sonic Dash's poses.

During her childhood, Amy used to wear a green shirt with an orange skirt, white gloves, and blue shoes with white tips and soles, orange laces, and a white tongue. For some reason, she also had a headband on her head, behind her ears, possibly to hold her light spikes in place. In Sonic Boom! she has a more closed appearance with a more positive and charismatic attitude, with a tighter dark pink dress with a dark white belt on her waist along with a yellow dot on her chest at her navel. She also wore white gloves with very dark pink sleeves and a ring as an accessory on each hand. Also dark pink pants with a lighter pink stripe. Finally, dark pink shoes with two red lines and one black line on the sides, the tip, the top and their soles of the same dark pink color with yellow dots. In the spin-off video games, Amy appears in a variety of different outfits.

Personality.

Amy is well known as a girl with a cheerful, positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude, always with an optimistic view of problems and showing a lot of empathy towards others. Along with her other friends, she is quite supportive and always willing to help others, she also shows not to hold a grudge against anyone, since she has been able to help Dr. Eggman on multiple occasions despite the fact that he has tried to destroy the village several times. Amy is also very confident in herself, she is not afraid to be herself and that is why she is able to be a heroine like her companions by her own desire. She is the leader of Team Rose, made up of her best friends: Cream the Rabbit and Big the Cat in Sonic Heroes. One of Amy's most characteristic traits aside from her optimism is her faith: She defends Planet Earth as one that deserves to be defended and opposed Shadow the Hedgehog's plans to destroy it because of his Egdy attitude. In this same scene it is shown that Amy believes in second chances. Amy seems to have hunches: From knowing that in Sonic Battle Sonic would be in Tails' Workshop to Sonic Rush it is mentioned that she has a "Sonic Radar". In the Japanese version of Sonic Heroes, Amy says that "she has the feeling that Froggy and Chocola are in Eggman's base". Amy is very good at interacting with people, even if they are strangers, as her cheerful and positive attitude is able to endear her to almost anyone. Amy managed to change Shadow's perspective on humanity and also managed to strike up a friendly little chat with the reserved princess of Soleanna in an alternate line. In the same video game, she managed to become an ally of the mysterious hedgehog named Silver the Hedgehog, basically the same Sonic but painted silver. However, her jealousy can sometimes make her cloudy, at first she came to have a misunderstanding with Blaze for this reason.

Amy is a loyal friend and she usually supports her friends. Amy can also act in somewhat grotesque and sarcastic ways when she gets angry, though it is difficult to irritate her. She is also shown to have patience, even with her greatest enemies. On some occasions she does not show much affection towards Sonic, she secretly has a crush on him, and will do anything to keep it a secret. It is mentioned on two occasions that she has a Sonic plushie that she made a long time ago for "combat and not at all obsessive" reasons. When she's not involved in world-saving adventures, Amy enjoys a variety of hobbies including: running, shopping, boxing, visiting friends, baking snacks or cakes, and helping out citizens and other helpless animals. Amy's favorite style of training is kickboxing. Amy also tends to get frustrated when things don't go her way, even though she always keeps an optimistic side to things. She also hates injustice, even when it comes to her own enemies, as she once agreed with Eggman that pitting him against several people was unfair, even though it was just a trap on his part. Amy has had a noticeable progression in her attitude, acting much calmer and less exaggerated regarding her admiration for Sonic. Her attitude is much calmer in general, without losing her enthusiasm and courage in the face of situations. She has a certain sense of humor, usually to cheer up her other classmates, quite unique for her since Amy is only 12 years old, although on many occasions she acts and is mistaken for a 17 year old. Another of her interests is reading tarot cards. Along with her recklessness and risky behavior, Amy is heroic, carrying a strong sense of justice. She is capable of doing everything possible to help others, even if this puts her own life at risk. In cases like these, she does not fear danger at all.

She is well-mannered, and also likes fashion, the color pink, and beautiful things. Amy is also known for being quite determined, preferring to join in on the adventure rather than just wait around. She mentions that she misses the days when she used to fight Eggman's robots alongside her friends. When enraged, he is capable of chasing others with his Piko Piko Hammer. Sonic is usually his target in these types of situations, and on rare occasions, Cream.

Skills and Talents.

Amy proves to be an excellent hand-to-hand fighter, always maintaining her grace while battling. Her fighting skills are said to be so good that she is even capable of making a fool of any of the males. She is also a valuable member of Team Sonic, as she can destroy powerful robots, such as ZERO, on her own. Thanks to her occasional training, she also grows progressively stronger. However, she is still no match for highly skilled individuals like Rouge. While not superhuman, Amy does possess above-average physical attributes, making her a powerful figure in her own right. She has great physical strength as she constantly wields her Piko Piko Hammers with little effort and swings them with enough force to smash through metal, send enemies skyward, fly like a helicopter, create whirlpools, generate shockwaves, or send herself flying by hammering the ground. On top of that, Amy was able to slap Knuckles hard enough to send him flying into a tree without realizing it at the time. Amy is capable of running at great speeds which stems from her practice of chasing Sonic and her innate hedgehog abilities. While her exact top speed is unclear, she can run fast enough to even keep Sonic constantly on his toes, suggesting that she is a remarkably fast runner. Amy can even run fast enough to create afterimages of herself, though she admitted to not being as fast as Sonic. Amy also has good acrobatic skills and agility, being able to handle and swing her large Piko Piko Hammer gracefully and without hindering her when in the air, perform various forms of moves and tricks when launched into the air, and grind on rails with ease.

Amy also possesses a high degree of physical stamina and durability. Furthermore, thanks to her indomitable spirit and perseverance, Amy has impressive endurance, being able to push herself to the absolute limits of her endurance before succumbing to exhaustion. Amy is highly proficient in wielding her Piko Piko Hammer, having been declared unbeatable when controlling it. With it, she is able to deliver destructive blows that can punch through a robot's armor or perform enhanced jumps. Using her Piko Piko Hammer, Amy can even perform incredible feats that defy physics, such as maintaining temporary flight by spinning her Piko Piko Hammer like a propeller, causing tornado effects by swinging her Piko Piko Hammer, executing mid-air jumps by striking her hammer in mid-air, launching powerful shockwaves with a single punch, or creating expanding energy domes. Amy is a tough fighter, though her combat skills are not as developed as Sonic's, Knuckles', or Tails'. Despite this, Amy can be a fierce opponent in a confrontation, especially when her temper flares. She has also received limited hand-to-hand combat training, having learned kickboxing and boxercise while on a diet. While these martial arts are more reminiscent of drills, Amy knows how to defend herself using those drills, allowing her to use quick japs, straight punches, and uppercuts in combat.

Amy's fighting style is primarily centered around her Piko Piko Hammer. In battle, she uses the size and durability of her hammer to her advantage, either using it to knock opponents away or bringing its full weight down on opponents, crushing them with devastating force. For more offensive moves, Amy spins around with her Piko Piko Hammer, either turning into a spinning top that cuts through everything in its path or whipping up whirlwinds and shockwaves to blow opponents away, though such maneuvers can leave her dizzy. However, Amy can also fight hand-to-hand with her opponents, though she rarely resorts to this method. As seen in Sonic Battle, when fighting opponents up close, Amy utilizes kickboxing-like moves, utilizing quick, overhead strikes. Most of Amy's offensive techniques revolve around variants of her main technique, the Hammer Attack, a downward swing with her Piko Piko Hammer at opponents. These variants serve to compensate for Amy's lack of superior physical abilities and movement. Her Jump Attack allows her to swing her Piko Piko Hammer in the air to attack enemies while in the air with a greater attack range, and her Spin Hammer Attack and Spinning Hammer Attack allows her to spin with her Piko Piko Hammer to attack with a greater attack range. For better movements, Amy can use her Hammer Jump and Mid-Air Hammer Jump techniques so she can somersault higher into the air by launching her Piko Piko Hammer from where she is positioned, and with her Propeller Hammer she can hover in the air like a helicopter for a short time.

Some of Amy's more special moves include her Tornado Hammer, where she throws a whirlwind at opponents to knock them off the ground, and the Rose Typhoon, where she creates a dome-like shockwave by hammering into the ground. Though she sometimes lacks them, Amy can also perform the various forms of the Spin Attack, a technique where she curls up into a concussive disk and homing in on her targets. The Homing Attack allows Amy to jump and homing in on an enemy to get over large gaps she normally can't reach, the Spin Jump allows her to curl up into a ball to attack the opponent by landing on them, and the Spin Dash allows her to shoot forward as a boost roll at high speeds to break through barriers or knock back enemies.

Relations.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Amy is a good friend/ally of Sonic, and often accompanies him on his adventures to save the world. She is hopelessly in love with Sonic and believes that being with him is her destiny predicted by the tarot cards since he saved her from the clutches of Metal Sonic. She fell in love with him at first sight and has since followed him on his adventures. She often calls herself Sonic's girlfriend and always insists that he marry her. Amy often calls him "My Darling Sonic". Sonic often shows that he has special feelings for Amy, even mentioning in Sonic Boom! that he secretly likes to call her "Plum". Sonic often has trouble expressing his feelings, as he usually puts on a cool and carefree front, but deep down, he cares a lot about Amy's well-being and that someone else doesn't abuse her innocence and hospitality. Sonic also shows enormous jealousy when he thought Amy was on a date with someone else, and even when he sees Amy interested in other people, so he quickly decides to hide his jealousy. Some other people tend to treat them as if they were boyfriends, even when Sonic said; "She's NOT my girlfriend!" the lie detector gave him the wrong signal. Deep down, Sonic also shows a tender side with Amy, but tries to hide part of that shy and somewhat cowardly side with his boastful attitudes, since when Amy invited him to a romantic dinner, Sonic opted to eat the hot dog with chili in two bites and thus run away when he was temporarily hired as a delivery man. Sonic even has a picture of Amy near his mirror in his hut, indicating that he secretly loves and admires her.

It has been mentioned that Sonic and Amy often go out for walks together, and occasionally, Amy gets angry at him for believing that Sonic has stood her up. Sonic is even sometimes capable of putting his well-being above Amy's when bad things happen, from saving her from robots to saving picnic food due to a "supposed rain" that occurred at a picnic. Amy is also shown to love cooking and having picnics with Sonic from time to time, as she trusts him blindly. When Sonic decided to team up with Dr. Eggman to stop Cow-bot while they were eating marshmallows, Dr. Eggman says to him; “Hey Sonic, friend to friend. What's up with you and Amy?” Sonic was completely perplexed, as he never usually talks to anyone about his feelings for Amy, as he is embarrassed for his friends to see his tender and sensitive side. Amy tends to get angry with Sonic from time to time, usually when he doesn't reciprocate her love, even chasing him around to hit him with her hammer, she also tends to get tired of how arrogant Sonic is at times and somewhat paranoid about Dr. Eggman's plans or the rivalry he feels to surpass others. Sonic is also capable of looking for trouble for anyone who tries to mess with Amy; such as when Dr. Eggman depressedly told him "What a dumb idea.", Sonic proceeded to tell him; "Hey! Don't bother, dirty mustache!". Amy also shows jealousy towards Sonic when Tails mentions that he can turn graphic elements into reality, and Sonic says; "Oh, that's good. There's a princess in a castle that I'd like to meet" (Possibly it is Princess Peach, since in that same chapter it is mentioned later "The princess is in another castle"). She has a picture of Sonic in her bag, and always lies saying that she has no feelings for him.

Cream the Rabbit: Cream is her best friend, whom she also considers as a little sister. Cream and Amy have their motto: "pink and orange friends forever". Their friendship is comparable to that of Sonic and Tails. The two often team up on different occasions. The two are seen together throughout Sonic Battle, except when Emerl drags one of them along. Amy also goes looking for Cream in Shadow the Hedgehog's Cryptic Castle, which suggests how much she cares for her. In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood when Amy finds Cream, she tells her "Poor thing, what are you doing here?". In Sonic Rush, it is implied that Amy occasionally gets angry at Cream, enough to chase her with her hammer. Amy became enraged at Cream when she called her "blind" in regards to her love for Sonic, to which Cream exclaimed "Not again!". Amy and Cream have the ability to team up and generate attacks. Big the Cat: Big is probably more of a friend to Amy than others. They fight together in Sonic Heroes, forming Team Rose. In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood after Big's meeting at Mystic Ruins, Big overhears that he "heard his good friend Amy Rose" so he runs to see if it's really her. When he sees Amy, Big becomes very happy and actually makes an attempt to hug her (in which Amy refuses due to the fact that she smelled from the fumes in the ruins). Also, if you agree for Big to join your team, once again, he becomes happy that he gets to be close to Amy.

Sticks the Badger: The wild Sticks is Amy's teammate and best friend on Team Sonic. The two are very close, with Amy in particular standing by Sticks' side through thick and thin when he needs support no matter what. As a testament to the bond they share, Amy, as the only one, would provide Sticks with unwavering support every step of the way during the time when the Village turned against the Badger. Additionally, as a symbol of their friendship, they each possess an attachable BFF necklace. Like the rest of her team, Amy is usually baffled by Sticks' paranoia and skeptical of his theories, though she tries to be gentler when telling him that. However, she always apologizes for doubting her when she is proven wrong. Knuckles: Amy interacts with Knuckles on rare occasions. In Sonic Rush, when Amy was interacting with Blaze, the second time Knuckles walks in, and tells Blaze, "Hey, cat lady, time to settle the score!", Amy tells him, "Uh-oh! What did you do to him?" Cream tells Amy that there is a misunderstanding, to which Amy comments as "pretty typical of Knuckles". In order to let Knuckles leave Blaze alone, Amy calls Knuckles a "jerk", leading to a brief argument, to which Knuckles replies, "I don't have time for you! I have business with that cat lady!" Amy mocks Knuckles and says, "I know! That's why I called you an im-", about to call him a fool again, Knuckles then becomes outraged and confronts Amy, leaving Blaze alone.

Shadow the Hedgehog: Amy first meets Shadow when she mistakes him for Sonic (literally Sonic, but painted black) and hugs him from behind. Shadow remains, even after being surprised by the ambush, still, not thrashing or retaliating violently. When Amy senses his lack of reaction, she releases him, causing him to look back. Amy asks his name when she realizes he's not Sonic, but remains silent. After several warnings from Amy, Dr. Eggman, who also realizes the mistake he's made, runs away screaming. During this time, Shadow steps up behind her, until Dr. Eggman tells the team that he will take care of Amy. Vector the Crocodile: Amy and Vector first met in Sonic Heroes. When Team Chaotix met up with Team Rose. Vector wanted to ask Amy a question, Amy walked away and said "If this is a date, it'll have to wait," Vector raged on about it as she wasn't going to ask her that. So, due to some misunderstandings, the two teams battled each other. Silver the Hedgehog: When she first met him, she mistook him for Sonic, as he's literally the same Sonic but painted silver. The two manage to become friends, though Amy is later upset to see that Silver tried to kill Sonic. When Silver, Sonic, and Shadow team up to take down Solaris, Amy is back on good terms with him.

Dr. Eggman: Much like the rest of her team, Amy's sworn enemy is Dr. Eggman, whom she generally dislikes. However, their relationship is a complex one. While Amy will not hesitate to fight Eggman to stop his evil plans, they maintain a passive relationship outside of their battles where they let each other stay close without seeking conflict. Amy and Eggman share a common interest in the Fuzzy Pups that Amy taught him to play. This has allowed them to form a part-time friendship; while they agree to remain enemies while fighting, they do team up in their free time to play Fuzzy Pups, and generally have a good time doing so. Maya (Maya-bot or Bea The Bee): Amy's beloved pet Bee Bot, a robot that served under Dr. Eggman for a time. Though enemies at first, Amy took pity on Bea after she found her broken, but still functional, body on the battlefield. Amy decides to ask Tails to repair her and subsequently took it upon herself to nurse Bea back to health, eventually naming her and adopting her as her pet. From then on, the two became very close and did all sorts of activities together, painting her yellow parents pink to differentiate them from the others. Their bond proved to be so strong that even after Eggman took control of Bea, Amy was still able to make Bea react to his commands. Amy often teaches her new tricks, with the exception of "playing dead" which causes Bea to completely destroy herself. Amy often turns to Tails when Bea has a malfunction. Amy is very dedicated to protecting Bea from Eggman, and was heartbroken when he took her away. Similarly, she was enraged beyond compare when Mega Bot took down Bea.

Curiosities.

• Her name refers to the color pink, in this case "rose", which would also refer to roses. Amy's name is derived from the Latin "amare" and its meaning can vary between "kind" or "loved". • Amy and Cream's friendship is comparable to that of Sonic and Tails. In Sonic Advance 3, their team is given the title of "girl team" and serves as a female counterpart to Sonic and Tails' "solid bond." Additionally, Amy is admired by Cream in the same way that Tails admires Sonic. • She apparently has the power to turn invisible, although the only game that has actively used this power was Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), so it could be a bug of said video game. In Sonic and the Black Knight, she is seen with this ability under her alternate version known as Nimue. • Amy was the only character in Sonic (2006) who did not travel through time. • He is the only hedgehog whose name does not start with "S". He is also the only hedgehog that does not have the pronoun "the" or "the Hedgehog" in his name. • A recurring theme about his character is that he often confuses another hedgehog with Sonic, even if the hedgehog bears no resemblance to him. > It may be a reference to the fact that hedgehogs do not see very well. • Amy is the only confirmed game character to use magic outside of the book series story. • On rare occasions you can see Amy's back, which is uncovered by the shape of her dress. • Amy knows how to juggle. • She is a very good painter. • She loves to talk about feelings, which overwhelms Sonic a lot. • Most of her poses are extremely feminine, as is almost everything in her personality.

My feelings for you will get you out of this cell faster!” Amy: “I’m Amy Rose, and I’m auditioning for the sidekick role!” Sonic: *Sighs.* “Amy, I know who you are.” Amy: “Cool, because I love nebotism. Oh! In one of the skills you can put juggling and singing, Oh, I count the saints! They go marching and tralala~” *She says this while juggling.* Sonic: “Next...” When Eggman stayed to live with them: Amy: “Guys, we have to help him... If we don’t, we won’t be any better than him.” Eggman: *Talks while chewing.* “Yeah, yum yum, they won’t be better than me.” Amy: *Approaches him and questions him.* “Think about what this is like for him… Do you feel scared without a home?” *Raises her hand as she speaks.* “Do you feel alone?” *Grabs his arm.* “Are you eating your feelings?” Eggman: “Someone get her away from me.” Tails: “Guys, if Eggman needs to stay, he can stay. Who knows?” *Glares at Eggman.* “It might not be so bad after all...” Eggman: *Smiles, showing a shine in his teeth.* *After a few stormy days living with Eggman, Sonic, Tails and Amy gather in the living room's coffee table.* Sonic: “That's it, I'm tired of Eggman! With or without a lair, he's out of here!” Amy: *Raises a hand as she talks to Sonic.* “Hey, you can’t just kick him out… Sure! He may be a difficult classmate, but it’s only because you two have communication issues.” Tails: “Communication problems? He hit me with a hard pillow, I’m dizzy and I have short-term memory loss… And I have short-term memory loss.” Amy: *Gets up from the couch and clenches her fists.* “Let’s settle this with a roommate meeting!” Amy: “Let’s clear that up with… When you do this… You make me feel this…”
