Karma's personality

Karma Akabane (赤羽 業カルマ, Akabane Karuma) is a student and the tritagonist in Korosensei's Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School who had been suspended from school due to his violent behavior and one of Nagisa Shiota's best friends. Karma is well-known throughout the school for his violent behavior and troublesome attitude. He is quite cunning, mischievous, and somewhat sadistic, usually playing foul, tricking, and at times manipulating, humiliating and fighting others. He has been described by Tadaomi Karasuma as "at first glance, he comes across as being a lazy sort, but there's a strong sense of mischief in his eyes", and Itona Horibe has described him to have "certain vision" to Ryoma Terasaka. Karma is quite relaxed most of the time as he occasionally skips out on things he finds boring, such as the school assembly. However, he has become considerably more hard working at studying after the embarrassing exam arc although he hides it by making it look like he was playing video games. Unexpectedly, Karma is a fan of superhero movies, like Sonic Ninja. Despite his somewhat sadistic nature, Karma actually has good values behind his motives, and can be quite empathetic. The reason he was placed in Class E was that he had rescued a senior from Class E being bullied by students from the main building. He is, unlike his former classmates, unprejudiced against Class E. He believes each and every one of them have their own special talents and will defend them, especially against Class A.

Karma's personality continued

When he was in the main building, due to the betrayal of his most-trusted homeroom teacher, Karma began to hate all people who called themselves 'teachers' and as a result, he had almost zero respect for any adults. However, Karma has become more objective after meeting Korosensei, now respecting more of his opponents' and teachers' strengths and weaknesses. Karma has shown to be more than capable of respecting and caring for other people, as he greatly cares for Nagisa who seems to be his friend, and has grown attached to his classmates and others: he is best friends with Nagisa Shiota, he gets along with Manami Okuda and Rio Nakamura, often teases Terasaka and respects Gakushu Asano while he sees him as his intellectual rival. He also forms a bond with Korosensei, breaking down crying when he died. However, Karma also tends to be quite impulsive, to the point of becoming truly brutal and cruel when fighting with people who threaten him or any of his friends from Class E.

Karma's appearance

Karma has pale skin, short red hair and pale sharp eyes that appear as either mercury or goldish in color. Behind his usual innocent-looking, smiling face hides a torturous and rather sadistic personality. He has a slender build and has also been shown to have exceptionally sharp canine teeth. In the anime, Karma is considered to be the most physically attractive out of all the boys in Class E by the girls.

Karma's history

Karma comes from a wealthy family, as his parents are successful financial day traders. They are "free people" who spend most of their time traveling around the world, and as a result, they spend little time with Karma. For a long time, Karma had been a rebellious student with a problematic attitude. However, due to his good grades, his homeroom teacher had supported him and proclaimed that "as long as Karma does what's right, he'll back him up." In his first two years at Kunigigaoka, Karma had been friends with fellow classmate Nagisa Shiota. He first approached Nagisa when he saw the latter reading an article about Karma's favorite film director adapting a comic book, and invited Nagisa to watch with him. For a short time, the two hung out together, with Karma being able to be less guarded with Nagisa. One day at a fast food outlet though, Nagisa unintentionally was able to sneak up on Karma. This made Karma feel exposed and vulnerable since Nagisa could have struck and killed him in that moment and he wouldn't have been able to react in time - something the strong and capable Karma wasn't used to. Karma sensed a mysterious but sinister feeling from Nagisa, but as he realized that he does not know how to deal with this (having being used to beating his problems with his fists). As a result, Karma distanced himself from Nagisa. By the time of his suspension, their relationship reverted back to being just classmates. One day Karma had found a senior from Class E being bullied and had jumped to his rescue, severely injuring the main building's 3rd year in the process. Convinced that he was still in the 'right', Karma was shocked when his homeroom teacher told him that he was in the 'wrong'. His teacher then further elaborated that he had no right to protect a "worthless piece of trash" from Class E and instead injured a fellow student with a "bright future", and told him that starting his third year he would be dropped to Class E.

Karma's history (2)

this caused him to spent his third year doing what he wanted.

Karma's relationship with Nagisa

Chapter 147 reveals the history of their friendship as the two friends had a sour disagreement. While Nagisa admires Karma for his intelligence and positive personality, Karma saw Nagisa as "a nice and honest yet harmless little animal" who he could afford to be less cautious with, thus trusting Nagisa to spend time with. This changed after Karma did not know how to respond to the mysterious feeling hiding within his friend after a surprise poke from behind that felt as though he had been violently stabbed in the back. He described this as a 'mysterious something that he wanted to drag out of him and destroy, just to be safe'. Unable to find a way to respond to this, Karma avoided Nagisa, which caused Nagisa to believe that Karma simply became tired of 'sharing the stage' with him, particularly as Karma easily wins fights and triumphs in studies, and invitations to hang out gradually became rare. By the time of Karma's suspension their relationship went back to being just classmates. But even so, it seems that Karma still can't avoid to constantly tease Nagisa by having him cross-dressed and express his intention to remove Nagisa's "that". In Assassination Classroom the Movie: 365 Days, Karma said that they might not have been friends anymore if they didn't fight whole-heartedly in the civil war. Karma also states that despite fighting many people, the best fight he had is with Nagisa. Their close relationship continues even after they grow older; in the Graduation Album, a scene depicts the two of them drinking beer together as adults. In the very same picture, Karma states that he often got Nagisa drunk so that Karma could grumble all he liked without leftover memory.

Karma's relationship with Nagisa (2)

Nagisa is Karma's first and closest friend. The two of them have been classmates since their first year at Kunugigaoka and as a result, they know each other well. The two often hang out together and seem to enjoy the same things like movies. Karma also enjoys teasing Nagisa and often has many creative methods to do so; many of which poke fun at his androgynous appearance. Despite that, Nagisa really doesn't mind it and isn't very offended by Karma's teasing. In the official character book, it was stated that Nagisa is the only person to have visited his house. Nagisa has once stated that he envies Karma's easy-going, brilliant personality, and Karma is sometimes seen asking for Nagisa's advice or intel. It has also been noted that Karma considers Nagisa a prodigy and has high respect for his skill, admitting to Okuda that he was a bit jealous of his friend's assassination skills. However, despite their friendship, the two never got to removing the '-kun' suffix when addressing each other until the end of Chapter 148. karma helped Nagisa embraced his feminine side and the two are in a happy romantic relationship. the two began dating their 3rd year of middle school. karma loves Nagisa and proudly opens this. karma calls Nagisa by his name and rarely uses pet names.

Karma's relationship with Korosensei

Initially, Karma hated Korosensei like he did with all teachers due to the incident where the teacher reprimanded Karma for defending another student simply because they were an E student. He was ecstatic upon learning he would have the chance to kill a real teacher but failed each time and even threw himself off a cliff: either Korosensei would die trying to save him or Karma would be killed and Korosensei's teaching career would die. However, Korosensei found a way around it and saved Karma, causing Karma to slowly respect him. While he still enjoys teasing Korosensei and tries to kill him, Karma grows to care for him. Karma was the first person to defend Korosensei when the class believed he was behind a string of underwear thefts, understanding Korosensei wouldn't be that sloppy and that by doing so would lose his worth as a teacher. When given the chance to save Koro-sensei, Karma remained adamant on killing him, since he felt the purpose of the assassination classroom would be eliminated if there was no bloodlust. When Nagisa finally kills him, Karma shed genuine tears which he tried hard to fight back, showing how much he had grown to care for his teacher.

Karma's relationship with Sugino

Sugino is someone who is cautious of behaviors that lead to match prohibitions and punishment for violence. It’s why at the start he was uncomfortable with Karma and his tendency to pick fights, but after interacting some more via Nagisa (ie as a middleman of sorts), before he knew it they became friends.

Karma's relationship with Okuda

Karma and Okuda get along well. When prompted by his male classmates, Karma says he is interested in Okuda for her scientific abilities, seeing them as a way to increase the scope of his pranks. While initially afraid of Karma, Okuda eventually warms up to him and Karma, in turn, comes to trust her. He recognizes Okuda's extreme focus on her hobbies and considers her the girl he can talk about anything with, being able to confide in her during the Test of Courage. Both consider the other to be the easiest person to talk to from the opposite gender.

Karma's relationship with Rio Nakamura

Rio Nakamura is often referred to as Karma's "partner-in-crime", as the two of them often tease Nagisa Shiota's androgynous appearance; mainly by forcing him to cross-dress at several points in the series. They are both known as the most intelligent and mischievous students in Class 3-E. On the 2nd semester's final exams, the two of them got into the top three, along with Gakushu. Their first well-known interaction was during the civil war when the two shared a common ground in opposing Nagisa's suggestion to save Korosensei. Later on, the two teased Kayano during Valentine's Day

Karma's relationship with Gakushu

The Ace of Kunugigaoka Junior High School on Academic aspects, and Karma's academic rival. On the final semester exam, Gakushu wished to extract any information about Korosensei from Karma and he was gladly willing to only if Gakushu managed defeat him in Academic battles. However, Karma managed to defeat Gakushu by getting a perfect score (500 of 500). On Chapter 155, Karma stated that he will remain on Kunugigaoka by taking transfer student exam because he can display full abilities of academic as he looks at Gakushu on main building. For Karma himself, he considers Gakushu as his worthy rival for academics because he will able to make fun competition against Gakushu; this rivalry becomes the main reason why Karma decides to remain in Kunugigaoka for another three years.

Nagisa's appearance

Nagisa is a petite-framed boy with blue hair and azure eyes. His hair goes past his shoulders due to his mother forcing him to keep it that way. He kept it in a long ponytail until Kaede Kayano joined the classroom and styled it in two pigtails. He is known for his androgynous appearance which has often been poked fun at by many people. Seven years after graduation, his hair is noticeably shorter and no longer tied in pigtails, though he still keeps his bangs. He retains his signature uniform waist coat when working as a teacher. due to his relationship in his life Nagisa has learned to embrace his feminine appearance no longer feeling embarrassed about wearing feminine clothes and prefers doing so.

Nagisa's personality

Nagisa is a calm, collected, and friendly individual who can be exceptionally observant and circumspect of his surroundings and the situations that develop around him. He tends to pay strict attention to Korosensei in hopes to understand the motives of the mysterious being and compiles the information he has gathered in his notes for reference. Nagisa is noticeably more reserved and shy than other students in his class, thinking much more than actually talking and referring to himself as "invisible" because of this. He seems to be commonly nervous about what he says in important situations, being hesitant and harboring a slight stutter, which is possibly due to his mother telling him he "isn't good enough". However, Nagisa is not easily fazed by things that would unnerve the average person, as shown in his interactions with Karma and the prospect of using a real knife. Despite his calm and empathetic demeanor, Nagisa possessed deep insecurity about his talents and how he was perceived by the people around him. This was reflected by a lack of goals and general pessimism about his own future, which caused him to end up in Class 3-E. However, Nagisa eventually gained more self-esteem, became more objective, and found his own goals, thanks to his experiences with his classmates and especially with Korosensei.

Nagisa's history

Nagisa is the son of Hiromi Shiota and her presumable ex-husband. His mother had hoped for a daughter so she could experience all the things she had missed as a child through her but got a son instead. As a result, she dictated his life from forcing him to keep his hair long, to being forced to cross-dress and verbally abused him whenever he spoke against her. Her personality also caused her husband to leave her and Nagisa. Nagisa was in Class D during his first two years of middle school before falling into Class E due to poor grades.[1] During those two years, he hung out with fellow classmate Karma Akabane, though they slowly drifted apart before becoming classmates again. Soon after starting the new term as a Class E student, Nagisa met Kaede Kayano, who gave him what would become his signature pigtails instead of the ponytail he usually uses to keep his long hair from being less noticeable, thus beginning their friendship.

Nagisa's relationship with Sakura

Sakura is a young girl Nagisa sometimes teaches at Wakaba Park's Nursery, eventually becoming her personal tutor. He had problems connecting with her at first, but eventually, he was able to befriend her and help her with both her studies and her bullying problems. Sakura is also very fond of Nagisa due to his kind nature. She was the one who gave Nagisa the idea of becoming a teacher which he later decides to follow.

Nagisa's relationship with Yüji

Yūji Norita Yūji is a rich boy Nagisa met in Chapter 66 when he was forced to cross-dress during a mission to save the remaining students of Class E. Yūji had a crush on Nagisa after seeing his smile and the later teaching him what it means to be cool. They meet again in Chapter 117 where Yūji revealed that he had been searching for Nagisa ever since their first meeting. Nagisa then reveals to Yūji that he is male and teaches him that he can turn his weaknesses into strength and though shocked (and heartbroken), he still considered him a friend.

Nagisa's relationship with lovro

Lovro Instructor during Summer Break, Lovro heard about his traits of defeating Takaoka from Karasuma which gained his interest about his assassination skills. He sees Nagisa as a pure talented assassin by just looking at him, and he was the only one that was willing to teach Nagisa his Clap Stun technique which later Nagisa used it for the first time to defeat Takaoka for the second time. Aside of Hayami and Chiba whom he values as great marksmen, Nagisa in the other hand is valued as a pure talent assassin.

Nagisa's relationship with Korosensei

Korosensei is the first teacher Nagisa feels sees him head on, as Nagisa himself has had bad experiences with the teacher from his school since they only cared about grades and once he dropped, any respect they had for him was lost. While he frequently tries to kill Korosensei, Nagisa also respects and cares for him as a teacher and a mentor, and arguably even a parental figure. Korosensei, in turn, particularly focuses on Nagisa's development and watches out for him, especially since he can sense Nagisa's hidden bloodlust and low self-esteem. Korosensei even helped him stand up to his mother and demand freedom, and after gained it, he encouraged Nagisa's parents to reunite together for their son's sake as a family. When there was a chance Korosensei could be saved, Nagisa was the first who suggested they should. However, Nagisa ultimately was the one who killed Korosensei, crying the most when he had to. As he grew up, Nagisa followed his former mentor's example and became a teacher (ironically with a bunch of delinquents) and used the assassination skills he learned to keep them in line.

Nagisa's relationship with Ryōma Terasaka

Terasaka and Nagisa have not gotten any closer since the suicide bombing incident, but the one who understands the matured Terasaka the most is Nagisa. The words he said during his second duel with Takaoka still leave a deep impression in Nagisa’s heart.

Nagisa's relationship with Irina Jelavić

Though initially, it began with Irina's ruse to get information on Korosensei with a 'Kiss of Death "30 hits"' and timidity on the part of Nagisa, the two eventually become good allies with the good bonds of teacher and student. On several occasions, Irina demonstrated some valuable techniques as an assassin to Nagisa, and was surprised by Nagisa's hidden talents and bloodlust, the more notable examples being outsmarting a combat veteran such as Takaoka in a fight and subduing Kaede Kayano with her own technique: the Kiss of Death.

Nagisa's relationship with Rio Nakamura

Nagisa sits beside Nakamura in class, with the latter often teasing him and playing on his androgynous appearance. Despite that, the two get along well, and Nagisa doesn't pay much mind to her teasing. Unaware by him, Nakamura actually has a crush on him, which ended up being surrendered after she let Kayano make her move to gain Nagisa's affection.

Nagisa's relationship with karma

Karma Akabane Karma is another of Nagisa's closest friends. They were in the class for their first two years of middle school which continued into their third year. Unlike many people, Nagisa is unfazed by Karma's violent behavior, and although they have basically opposite personalities, they do have similar interests and get along well, such as their love for superhero movies. Karma also enjoys teasing Nagisa, but the latter doesn't pay it much mind despite often being incredulous to the extent of the teasing. It has been noted that while Nagisa greatly admires Karma's brilliance and easy going personality, Karma considers him as a prodigy as an assassin and an honest and kind person who he is willing to listen to his advice. The two originally hung around a lot in the past, such as when they saw the movie "Sonic Ninja". At that time, Karma saw Nagisa as an honest and nice yet harmless person who he can lower his guard around. However, after being surprised by Nagisa in a fast food outlet with what felt as though Karma had been stabbed in the back, he did not know how to respond to the mysterious feeling hiding within his friend. This caused to Nagisa believed that Karma simply became tired of "sharing" with him, particularly when Karma became violent, and invitations gradually became rare. By the time of Karma's suspension, their relationship went back to being just classmates, until reuniting again in Class 3-E, which caused them to become close friends again, and additionally dropping their honorifics when addressing each other. In the official Graduation Album, Karma spent time with Nagisa as a drinking buddy. It was partly because it allowed Karma to vent off steam, and also Nagisa usually had no recollection of their discussion due to being intoxicated. the two of them are happily dating and plan to get married. Nagisa doesn't like when Karma gives him pet names.

Korosensei's appearance

Korosensei used to be a human with small black eyes, short dark hair and pale skin. While working as an assassin, he would wear dark colored clothes, usually black or brown. After being used in experiments, Korosensei acquired the appearance of a yellow bipedal octopus. He is about three meters tall and possesses a large, bulbous head with a large smile and small, beady eyes. He uses two feelers as arms, with two fingers each, and utilizes the rest of his tentacles to walk with. Korosensei also dons a black academic dress, a small black square academic cap with a yellow tassel, and a large black tie with a yellow crescent-shaped moon on it.

Korosensei's personality

It was revealed that he was raised in an environment "where everybody could easily betray one another to the point that one could only trust oneself". Through these hardships, he decided to become an assassin in order to survive. Despite he gained an apprentice, he only saw him as a tool for his goals, which caused the latter to finally betraying his master. However, after meeting to Aguri Yukimura, he finally knew what compassion really was becoming much more kind and sympathetic. According to Aguri, if he was born in a peaceful country, his personality would be "someone a little perverted, with a good head but a few screws loose, petty about small things, and also a lot stubborn... or something like that." He has/would have "a gentle smile not just for business, but because he is a gentle person himself." This prediction happens to reflect his personality which became forefront after he answered the tentacles. When first introduced, Korosensei is a easygoing individual who demands absurd and seemingly mundane requests despite claiming he will be the cause of the planet's destruction in a year. He is also rather kind to others in general and can switch from silly and childish to serious on the fly. According to Nagisa, Korosensei also is unintentionally petty at others at times and loves gossip, both traits heavily noted through the series.

Korosensei's powers and abilities

Due to the human experiments of producing antimatter in a living body by Shiro, Korosensei's entire appearance is of an octopus-like creature with multiple tendrils that are his tentacles. Anything aside Anti-Sensei Weapons will be immune to him. It is initially believed that he will self-destruct by the time of Class E's graduation; however it has since been proven that the chances are minuscule at best. One of Koro-sensei's most advertised assets is how fast he is and that he can move around the world at velocities up to Mach 20 like he’s some kind of superhero. Koro-sensei's intense speed is also shown to have another purpose, which is used more for visual gags than an advantage in battle. Koro-sensei's speed can produce many after-image versions of himself, but rather than merely act as illusions, they can also carry out rudimentary tasks. It doesn't just confuse the opponent, but is a brilliant way to maximize limited time. Even before Korosensei gained his powers, he possesses a gifted mind which allows him to learn and understand complex knowledge in a matter of minutes. With his immense intelligence, he was able to single-handedly teach all the subjects and produce amazing results from the bottom of the barrel class of 3-E. Since gaining his speed, Korosensei has become hypercongnitive, and can process information thousands of times faster than the average human being. His incredible mentality combined with his speed also allows him to multitask on up to dozens of jobs at a time (teaching the entirety of Class 3-E individually and then some), all of which seemingly being done simultaneously. Most impressively, he was able to give the assassination AI Ritsu approximately 985 upgrades in less than a single day, completely transforming her, increasing her intellect, and giving her personality and sentience.

class 3E

Class 3-E (3年E組, San-nen E-gumi) or simply Class E is the lowest ranked class of Kunugigaoka Junior High School. It is nicknamed the "E-as-in-End Class" and consists of students who either failed to keep their grades up (i.e. Yukiko Kanzaki, Nagisa Shiota) or were punished for breaking school regulations (i.e. Yuma Isogai, Karma Akabane). The current year of 28 third-year students were tasked with a mission to assassinate an unknown destructive lifeform who they named Korosensei.

class 3E background

The building was originally a cram school Gakuho Asano first taught at. Asano had a teaching style very similar to Korosensei; he raised them to become kind and well-rounded. However, after the suicide of one of his former students, Asano developed new education ideals of creating "strong" students instead of "good" ones, and created Class 3-E to segregate the weaker students. Class E was made solely for the purpose of fulfilling Chairman Asano's educational value of his variation of the 20:20:60 worker ant ratio, a social science which states that 20% of people are exceptional, 20% of people are worthless, and the other 60% are ordinary. In Chairman Asano's "E system", the students who display poor academic ability are gathered in Class E and are singled out as the worthless ones, as a result, students do everything in their power to keep their grades up and avoid getting transferred to Class E. Asano's goal is for 95% of his students to be in the exceptional category, while only the remaining 5% fall into the worthless category (ignoring the fact that Class E actually comprises of 15% of the total student body).Blatant discrimination and stigmatization from the main body of the school, new and inexperienced teachers, poor and shoddy study environment, and even Chairman Asano himself intervening occasionally to ensure that the Class 3-E 'stays in the bog', sabotaging any effort from Class 3-E to improve itself academically, added to the despair of Class E students who lost the will to strive makes escape from Class 3-E while still attending the school virtually impossible. Prior to the events of the story, Class 3-E was under the tutelage of Aguri Yukimura who was killed shortly after the destruction of the moon[1] and being subjected to all manners of unjust, unfair and contemptuous treatments as failures.

class 3E location and appearance

The Class E building is located one kilometer away from the main building up on a nearby mountain. The trail between the Main Campus and Class E, in addition to the uphill trek, is riddled with a number of natural obstacles, such as snakes, bees, and rivers. Its exterior is that of an old rundown wooden school building with several places on the roof and a few windows boarded up. The interior contains a simple classroom with a blackboard, 28 desks, and a small faculty lounge. The building has no air conditioning and the ceiling has several leaks in it as well due to lack of funds (stemming from discriminatory school policy). Even with the building in such poor quality, Class 3-E is not on the list of School's concern to renovate the building.

assassination classroom plot

Currently, Class E is the location of a government confidential assassination of their homeroom teacher, Korosensei. Because it is secluded away from the main building, the students and teachers are able to carry out their assassination attempts without the people from the main school knowing or noticing.

Tadaomi Karasuma

Tadaomi Karasuma (烏間 惟臣, Karasuma Tadaomi) is an agent sent from Japan's Ministry of Defense to supervise Korosensei. In Kunugigaoka Junior High School, he was admitted as an assistant teacher and as the physical education teacher in Class 3-E.

Tadaomi Karasuma's appearance

Karasuma is a handsome young man with spiky black hair and eyebrows and piercing dark eyes. He has a tall and muscular build. He dresses professionally in a black business suit with a white shirt and a black tie. He is described as being "cool" by his students.

Tadaomi Karasuma's personality

Karasuma is a strict but kind man, though he keeps a distance between himself and the students due to his status as an agent and his own professionalism. He is also extremely dense when it comes to love, but isn't so oblivious that he eventually doesn't figure it out. Even though he comes off as distant, he's not completely devoid of emotion and seems to be able to express happiness very rarely, most notably, during violent situations.

Tadaomi Karasuma's history

He is well known amongst militaries for his outstanding reputation and is a powerful individual, which he has proven when he easily overpowered Lovro, who is a retired assassin. Akira Takaoka considered him his rival when he was in Air Force Military. Before becoming the P.E. teacher of Class 3-E, Karasuma was an Elite Soldier at the Air Force as well as a Trainee Instructor.
