Students are only allowed to enroll in this school if they have the potential for being a great magician, a factor which is determined by the Dark Mirror. A black carriage will be sent to personally pick up incoming students, which can even travel underwater.[1] They are kept unconscious in coffins called "Gates" until arriving at the academy. In most cases, they can only be awoken if their Gate is unlocked with a special key[2], however there are exceptions. All students are given a magical pen upon enrollment. These are fountain pens which hold the user's magic gemstones, and so are also utilized as wands. The color of one's gemstone is determined by which dorm they are in. They are capable of changing form, but so far this has only been shown with the dorm leaders. A prestigious four-year arcane academy. Its doors are only open to students deemed to possess magical aptitude as determined by a magical artifact called the Dark Mirror. The Dark Mirror is a magical mirror that sorts the new students into one of the seven dorms based on the nature of the student's soul and essence of their being. It can only sort students who possess magical powers. While it's possible to transfer dorms, it's a complicated process and requires a new ritual. Night Raven College is an all-boys academy and the main setting of Twisted Wonderland. It is a four-year magic educational institution located on top of a mountain on the north side of the Isle of Sages.

According to a legend in Twisted Wonderland, there once lived grand beings in this world collectively called The Great Seven. Each of the seven dormitories at Night Raven College are modeled after one of these Great Seven, and upon entering the school, students are sorted into these dorms. Seniors are said to spend most of their final year off-campus, receiving outside education; they don't return to campus until the cultural festival in February. Because of this, seniors are unable to participate in a majority of school events until their return. Every year, there are always a couple of dropouts or students who have to repeat a grade. However, there have been no such cases for Heartslabyul after Riddle became the housewarden of that dorm.

Ruggie is a light-skinned boy of average height. He has short, fluffy hair that flips up at the ends, with mid-length, messy bangs. His hair is mostly sandy-blonde, but a darker blonde color fades in from the top of his head. He has short, thicker-than-average eyebrows, bluish-gray eyes, and a subtle dark coloring underneath his eyes. Instead of human ears, Ruggie has large, brown hyena ears on the top of his head. This is paired with a short hyena tail of the same color. Small, sharp fangs are usually seen when his mouth is open. He is usually shown brandishing a mischievous smile. A long-suffering runt who spends most of his time cleaning up Leona's messes, both literally and figuratively. Raised in a poor environment, he gets downright shameless when it comes to food. Ruggie’s uniform is similar to the rest of the Savanaclaw students. It consists of a dark-yellow shirt, a black leather vest, worn-out jeans, thick beaded jewelry, and an orange-yellow bandana with black patterning and the symbol of Savanaclaw printed on it. The shirt has a deep y-neck, and a black, geometric pattern on the trim. Unlike a majority of Savanaclaw students, Ruggie’s shirt is not sleeveless, and is instead a large, short-sleeved t-shirt. He wears his shirt over the jeans, covering his waist. The leather vest has a design reminiscent of a “double-rider” biker jacket, with silver buttons and zippers. The jeans are a cool gray with visible creases. Over his jeans are black leather biker boots. He also wears one black, leather driving glove on his right hand. While most Savanaclaw students wear their orange-yellow bandana around their waist, Ruggie chooses to wrap it around his neck like a scarf. The uniform includes a variety of jewelry, made up of thick beads that are gold, red, blue, and green. Ruggie wears two low-hanging necklaces with this pattern of beads, but they are mostly covered by his vest and bandana.

Ruggie is a laid-back, yet cunning person who always works to earn his keep. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, even if it means blatantly deceiving others, or currying favor with his housewarden, Leona. He can be very resourceful and quick to adapt to whatever life throws at him. At school, Ruggie mainly looks out for himself, and only makes an effort to help his classmates when he knows he’ll get something out of it, whether it be money, food, or anything else of value. But his own well-being isn’t the only thing he cares about; he also makes it a point to support his community back homeHis poor upbringing has made him quite versatile, as he’s learned a number of practical skills necessary for survival, like cooking, cleaning, and good work ethic. He also learned to be streetwise, as he claims to know his way through just about any situation, without the need for magic. In general, Ruggie values his own hard work and self-sufficiency. As a result, it can be hard for him to trust people on a personal level. He usually assumes that anyone doing him a favor just wants something in return, similar to his own mindset. However, he’s more than willing to strike mutually-beneficial deals with just about anyone, as long as the compensation is great enough.

Ruggie's signature spell is called "Laugh With Me!" and it allows him to control the movements of others by forcing them to mimic his own movements It's possible to use this spell on multiple people at once. a signature spell is magic that is specific to it's creator.

He has thick, dark-brown hair that goes below his shoulders in length, with long, side-parted bangs that fall over his eyes. Two sections of hair on both sides of his face are braided and tied at the ends with yellow bands. He has emerald green eyes, and a thin scar over his left eye that goes from his eyebrow to his cheek. He also owns a black lion tattoo wrapped around his left arm, just below his shoulder. Instead of human ears, he has brown lion ears on the top of his head. This is paired with a long lion tail of the same color, with a dark-brown tuft of fur at the end. He is usually shown with half-lidded eyes and a smug, sharp-toothed grin. He often tasks Ruggie with work he's to lazy to do, such as cleaning his room, getting him food, taking care of the dorm when he doesn't feel like it.
