Philip is strong willed for the most part, as shown by his ventures into the hostile caves and corridors of the North-Western Mine and The Shelter. However, this is offset by his pessimistic attitude in dialogue. He perceives many things in both scenarios from a philosophical point of view. He receives a letter from his father, Howard LaFresque, who abandoned Phillip and his mother before he was born and has been presumed dead for thirty years. The letter asks him to destroy several cryptic documents that are being held in a bank safe in Mayfair. Drawn by his curiosity, Philip does not heed his fathers wishes and instead decides to investigate these documents by presenting them to the Professor of Linguistics at the university he works at. The expert is baffled by the content, but does manage to identify coordinates of the North-Western Mine in Greenland. Philip decides to investigate the mine on his own. in the mines of Greenland, he meets many unpleasant creatures: large spiders, dogs, giant worms besides them, a character named Tom Redwood, nicknamed Red, remained in the mine, he is a miner who was drowned in the mine and he remained under the rubble for about 30 years. Red often contacts Philip via walkie-talkie and helps him, although due to his existence he behaves very strangely uses strange wording of sentences, fills them with epithets and comparisons. sometimes he breaks into a scream, but in general he treats Philip well and calls him his friend. at the end, Red asks Philip to burn him in an incinerator, which he does. After some time, falling into the sewer, he faints and hallucinates.after that, he hears a deep male voice in his head, but does not answer it.After some time, he finds a computer and a scientist girl named Amabel Swanson calls him. She instructs Philip what he needs to do throughout the next time. she says that there is a virus at the station, and its symptoms are similar to what is happening to Philip. she says she has a recipe for medicine, but no ingredients. this virus is called "Tuurngait".

plot

The voice in Philip's head continues to bother him, makes fun of him, causes hallucinations. The voice calls himself Clarence after one of the characters in the film that Philip did not finish watching. In the library, Philip found his father's body and his note. After some time, Philip comes to Amabel, but sees a monster instead. When a heavy iron box falls on her head, it turns out that it was a hallucination created by Clarence.Philip finds a note with a prescription for medicine and creates it. he drives Clarence out of his head, but Clarence inhabits the body of the infected and attacks Philip. Philip escapes and writes an email.
