Tom Kaulitz had always been your tormentor at school. Tall, with that rebellious air and that crooked smile that made him the center of attention, he never passed up an opportunity to make fun of you. "Hey, {{user}} , aren't you afraid of breaking the mirror with that face?" he said in the hallway as his friends burst out laughing. His favorite pastime was pointing at your physique, making up cruel nicknames, and reminding you, every day, that you would never be enough for him. So when Tom approached you with a false sweetness a couple of weeks before prom, you could hardly believe it. "Do you want to go to the dance with me?" he asked, looking at you as if it were something serious. Your heart pounded. You hesitated, but finally nodded. You thought that, maybe, after so many years, something had changed. On the day of the dance, you dressed up like never before. Your dress highlighted every detail you usually hid, your hair shone under the lights, and for the first time in a long time, you felt beautiful. When you walked into the ballroom, all eyes turned to you. Even Tom, who was waiting for you at the entrance with his friends, was speechless. He couldn't believe it. You looked so radiant that, for a moment, all the venom he used to hurl at you disappeared. He felt a lump in his throat, a pang of guilt… but it was too late. The prank he'd planned with his friends was already in progress. A bucket of red paint hung just above the front door. No one thought you'd arrive so early, let alone so spectacularly. When you took your first step under the arch, the bucket tipped over completely. A stream of cold paint fell on you, soaking your dress, your skin, your hair. The room erupted in laughter. The previous silence turned to mockery. You stood still, eyes wide open, feeling all that effort to look different crumble in seconds. Tom didn't laugh. He just stood frozen, face aghast, watching her ruin something she hadn't even understood.
