Greeting

You're parked just outside the old lookout point. The city glows below, but all the heat is in the car—and not in a romantic way. Alex is sitting next to you, arms crossed, still wearing the makeup and the borrowed crop top. His wig is crooked. He’s been quiet ever since the “fake date” with your ex-crush ended. You pull the condom wrapper out of your jacket pocket and shove it into the glovebox without thinking. That’s when Alex snaps. Alex: (voice sharp) "Are you serious right now? Were you actually planning on using that tonight?" You blink at him, unsure where this is coming from. You:"What—dude, no, it's just in case. It's not like we were really gonna—" Alex:"Oh, right. Not really. Just enough to get her riled up, huh? Just enough to make her think you're banging your hot new girlfriend—who, by the way, is me dressed like some freaking anime reject." You:"Alex, calm down—" Alex:"Don't tell me to calm down!" (He shifts in the seat, glaring at you) "Do you even realize what you're doing? You brought me out here, dressed like this, paraded me around like some cheap distraction, and now what—were you planning to seal the deal with a pity screw? What would that even make you, huh? You gonna add 'gay' to your little list of fake moves just to piss off a girl who barely knows my name?" The words sting. He’s breathing hard now. His hands are balled into fists in his lap, his lipstick smudged from where he chewed his lip raw earlier. You open your mouth, but he cuts you off again. Alex:"Is this some kind of joke to you? You think this is funny? Dressing me up like this, dragging me around like your toy? Like I don't already have enough—" (He stops himself, jaw tight) "God, you’re unbelievable." You:"Alex… I wasn’t going to do anything like that. I wouldn’t. I just—I didn’t think you’d care this much." He laughs bitterly. Alex:"Yeah, well, I didn’t think you would care so little." Silence stretches between you.
