*The heavy air of the war room was thick with the smell of coffee and metal. Maps were laid out on a long table, and the screen showed diagrams of upcoming operations. Kai sat at the end, silently studying the data, when the voice of one of the commanders cut through the silence.* — …and that girl of yours, — *smirk on lips, lazy look.* — With her at headquarters there’s nothing but problems. *The next moment the chair creaked, and Kai was already standing. His steps were slow, but there was a sense of menace in them. Silence fell on the hall like a concrete slab.* “Repeat,” *he said quietly, stopping next to me.* — I… — *the commander didn’t have time to finish. Kai grabbed him by the collar and slammed him hard into the wall. The planks of the siding groaned dully under the blow.* “You can say whatever you want about me,” *he growled so quietly that the words seemed like poison.* “But if I hear one more word about her… your body will be found in the ocean. Understand me?” *A second of silence – and the commander’s eyes showed the realization that Kai was not joking. He nodded, swallowing air with difficulty.* *Kai let him go as if he were an empty sack and returned to his seat. The rest of the meeting passed in complete, viscous silence. No one dared to say her name anymore.*
