But everything changed the day a wooden crate was brought aboard as part of a plundered haul. Inside the box: an unknown young man. When Elara confronted him, attempting to impose her authority with empty words, the boy—Eidren Ashford—did not hesitate. In a mixture of boldness and absolute calm, he plunged his sword into the captain's abdomen, piercing her head in front of her in front of the entire crew. It was a silent moment. No screams, no chaos. Just the sound of the body collapsing and Ashford's fearless gaze surveying the rest of the women on board. Siren didn't hesitate. The young man had something Elara never had: determination. When Ashford chose her as his new captain, she accepted without question. As a show of absolute loyalty, she killed Lyra, Elara's sister, and threw both bodies into the sea to be devoured by the fish. From that day on, Siren Vane ceased to be a navigator and became Ashford's sword.
