Princess Celestia

History

Celestia was introduced in the medieval prologue as the elder of two sisters (the younger being Princess Luna). She used her powers to raise the sun at dawn while Princess Luna brought down the moon to begin the night. However, the ponies played during the day but "rejected" the night and slept throughout, causing the younger one to become bitter and eventually refuse to lower the moon to usher in the dawn. Her bitterness transformed her into an evil mare of darkness: Nightmare Moon. Celestia reluctantly harnessed the power of the Elements of Harmony and banished her to the moon for 1,000 years, maintaining harmony in Equestria by taking responsibility for both the sun and the moon. The day of Nightmare Moon's return is also the thousandth anniversary of the Midsummer Sun Celebration, so Celestia sends Twilight Sparkle to oversee the preparations for the celebration, which are taking place in Ponyville, and encourages Twilight to "stop reading dusty old books" and make friends, much to her surprise. Celestia is expected to appear at the Ponyville pavilion, but she disappears and Nightmare Moon appears instead. After Nightmare Moon is redeemed by the Elements of Harmony, she offers her younger sister "Princess Luna" the chance to rule by her side again, and she accepts.

Appearance

Celestia is a tall alicorn pony. She has white fur and large white wings and a large white magical horn, her mane and tail have pink, purple, aqua blue and green stripes with sparkles around them that move, her eyes are light grayish-magenta, she wears a golden crown with a purple gem, a golden necklace also with a purple gem, she wears golden hoof shoes and also has a sun-based beauty mark.

Personality

Celestia acts as a mentor/mother figure to Twilight. She often does not directly state her goals, but instead gives advice to help her students find the answers they need. For example, she wrote a letter urging Twilight to make better friends in Friendship is Magic, when her goal was for Twilight Sparkle to find the Elements of Harmony and now Twilight Sparkle has become the Princess of Friendship. Despite being royalty, she often encourages her subjects to relax with jokes and kind questions. She also shows great patience with any inappropriate behavior toward her, as seen when Pinkie Pie snatches a cupcake from her at a party in A Bird in the Hoof. Celestia shows a playful side when she laughs at the disappearing bottle of ink Twilight sent her in Griffon the Brush Off. In A Bird in the Hoof, while drinking from a constantly refilled teacup, she pretends to drink from her already full cup, causing Mr. and Mrs. Cake to overfill it. She watches with a smile on her face as Pinkie Pie devours one of her cupcakes, while Mrs. Cake gasps and drags Pinkie away. Celestia tells the Mane Six in The Best Night Ever, after they ruin the Grand Galloping Gala, that she always found the Gala horrible and hoped they would cheer her up. In Make New Friends but Keep Discord, Celestia invites Discord to the Gala for this very reason and, at the end of the episode, declares it to be "the most fun Gala in years." Celestia can also be very forgiving. She does not admonish Fluttershy for taking Philomena without asking in A Bird in the Hoof. As mentioned above, she does not punish Twilight for the chaos he caused in Lesson Zero. In Keep Calm and Flutter On, she firmly believed that Discord could behave, despite the trouble he had caused in the past. Celestia, though known to be kind-hearted, angers easily and has limits.

Magic

Celestia raises the sun, and that she had directed the moon and stars during her sister's absence. A screenplay of Celestia raising the sun is depicted in Chronicles of Friendship, and the sunrise coincides with the Princess's return. Princess Celestia's cutie mark is a stylized sun, reflecting her responsibility to raise and lower the sun.

Powers and abilities

Alicorn Physiology: Being an alicorn, Celestia can fly and use magic. Genius Intelligence: Celestia is very intelligent, able to retain a large amount of information and use it to her advantage. Magic: Celestia can perform great/high levels of magic only her sister Princess Luna Spell Casting: Telekinesis: Celestia can use her telekinesis magic to move things while her horn glows "I Want It, Need It" Spell: In Lesson Zero, Celestia dispels this spell from a huge number of ponies at once. Solar Energy Beam - Celestia can create massive and powerful energy beams in any direction or straight ahead and gain energy Control of the Sun and Moon: Celestia has magic and is able to raise and control the Sun and her sister Princess Luna who controls the moon. Energy Shield/Force Field Barrier: Celestia can create a powerful sphere-shaped Shield or Barrier to defend herself or others and be able to contain any of the enemies' attacks. Teleportation: Princess Celestia can disappear and reappear wherever she wants. Protection Spell: Princess Celestia was able to cast a spell on the Elements of Harmony that will repel Discord's magic. Flight: Like all Alicorns, Celestia can use her wings to fly just like Pegasus. Dreamscape Shift: She had her sister's temporary magic after Starlight foolishly changed her beauty without asking, thus changing her core powers as well. Immortality: At over 1000 years old, Celestia has never been shown to age. Leadership: Celestia has always shown great leadership for all of Equestria and uses it to fight villains. Enhanced Strength: Celestia has been shown to be very, very strong, with or without her magic. Improved durability.
