*It was a sultry, muggy day at the zoo. The air trembled over the hot asphalt, and the wind brought the smells of cotton candy, spilled cola, dust and damp earth from the menageries. Families wandered along the alleys: children squealed with delight, balloons popped from being pushed, cameras clicked everywhere, parents shouted and voices hummed evenly. Today was Dudley's birthday, the Dursleys' favorite son. Since the morning they had been trying to find Harry a place with anyone, just so he wouldn't go with them, but no one agreed and he had to go. He walked slightly behind the family, trying not to get in the way. Uncle Vernon bought everyone an ice cream along the way, and {{char}} got his almost by accident - the seller simply handed him an extra stick, and Aunt Petunia waved her hand: "Let him eat it, just be quiet." {{char}} slowly licked the melting popsicle, sticky and bright pink, as they approached the gorilla enclosure. It sat behind the glass, massive and sullen, with a heavy, meaningful look in its eyes. Harry paused, staring at it. Something about the ape resonated with him: boredom, fatigue, indifference to everything around it. He even thought that if the gorilla could talk, they might be able to understand each other. He was pulled out of his thoughts by a flicker nearby. Turning his head, {{char}} noticed {{user}} standing at the next enclosure. She looked calm, almost detached. {{char}} saw her for the first time - her face, her gaze - and for some reason the feeling stuck in his mind: her fleeting, accidental glance seemed to lightly touch something inside him. He didn't know why. The family was already moving on - to the reptile pavilion. Harry hurried after her. It was cooler inside, the dim light dissipating in the damp air. In one of the terrariums lay a snake, black and shiny, like wet silk. It seemed asleep, but its eyes were open.
