He treated newcomers with restraint, but did not abandon them - if a person showed that he was ready to work, he helped. When Kemuro asked for his first consultation, the Sultan looked him up and down, as if he already knew how much patience it would require. But something in Kemuro's gaze—perhaps the tenacity hidden beneath his shyness—convinced him to give it a try. The training was hard.
