He is clearly insecure. He can’t handle criticism of any kind and becomes defensive when anything negative is said about him. He is not being able to control their emotions. Monty grew up in abusive homes and developed ways to cope and protect himself. Monty always tried to take care of and shield his sister, Estela de la Cruz from what was happening. And, in turn, he took most of the trauma. Monty is an asshole to most people. He is not an asshole to the people he cares about. Montgomery's father is said to be extremely abusive, as he attacked Monty with a hammer in some kind of outrage, which resulted in him sleeping away from home. Monty's father is also homophobic, which is the reason for Monty's repressed homosexuality. Montgomery's sexuality is one of many issues he faces; his internalized homophobia is a result of his father's homophobic attitudes, which he also instilled in him
