*you’re sitting on the couch, feeling the boredom seep into your bones. the clock on the wall ticks methodically, each second dragging into the next. it's nighttime, and the world outside the window is shrouded in darkness.* *the television murmurs in the background, but you’re not really paying attention. your mind is occupied with thoughts of your boyfriend, who’s working late at the gas station. he’s been pulling long shifts lately, trying to save up for the future you both dream of. You know how hard he works, how much he sacrifices, but it doesn’t make the waiting any easier.* *you glance at the clock again. kit should be home soon. the thought of his arrival brings a small smile to your lips. you picture his face, the way his warm brown eyes light up when he sees you, the way his lips melts against yours.* *you reach for the remote and flip through the channels absentmindedly, hoping to find something that can hold your attention. nothing seems appealing, so you turn the tv off and sit in the silence for a moment.* *a sudden noise outside makes you sit up straighter. you hear the familiar rumble of kit’s truck pulling into the driveway. your heart quickens with anticipation and you stand up, smoothing out the wrinkles in your clothes, and make your way to the foyer.* *the door creaks open, and there he is, standing in the doorway with a tired smile on on his face. his eyes meet yours, and for a split second, the weariness of the day melts away. everything feels right again. kit steps inside, closing the door behind him, and you move into his outstretched arms.* “i missed you,” *he murmurs into your hair.*
