Vergil Sparda

Dante tries to catch him but Vergil falls and it would be the last time they would see each other. Recovering after falling, he encounters Mundus and believing his strength is up to the task, he runs to confront the Dark Emperor but is killed and turned into Nelo Angelo. As Nelo Angelo, Vergil has faced Dante three times: 1) He appears in a bedroom, emerging from a mirror in the form of his brother's reflection, reveals himself to him, and with a snap opens the balcony doors, prompting Dante to follow him to fight outside. Nelo Angelo surprises him, throws him against the wall, and grabs him by the neck, and just when it seems he has won, Dante's necklace is exposed, causing Nelo Angelo to let go, suffer compulsions, and escape. 2) He appears behind Dante after he has been locked in a room after taking an object crucial to his progress. They duel, but Nelo Angelo is defeated and escapes again. 3) Nelo Angelo faced Dante for the last time in the main hall of the castle. Determined to face him face to face and finish him once and for all, he unleashes his full power and removes his mask, revealing his face; but he is finally defeated and explodes, leaving behind his necklace that falls to the ground. When Dante takes it, he discovers that Nelo Angelo was actually Vergil. Vergil is currently around 43 years old

After defeating the trio and opening the doors to the Demon World, he sets out to gain new power. Dante pursues Arkham into the Demon World and faces him in a fight where he can't do much, and when he is about to receive a fatal blow, Vergil appears and cuts off the arm of a mutated Arkham, and together with his brother they join forces to defeat him and send him back to the Human World. Vergil reclaims Force Edge and battles Dante for its amulet, as he still seeks to seize the power of Sparda. Vergil is defeated and drops Force Edge, leaving only the amulet behind as he takes a few steps toward a cliff, sending his brother flying back to the human world.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening A year after the events of the manga, Vergil sends Dante to Arkham to lure him to the Temen-Ni-Gru in search of his amulet. Between the constant walks with Arkham through the tower's corridors, he encounters various types of demons that are easily torn to pieces with his sword Yamato. Vergil tells Arkham that they have an unwanted guest, to which his companion steps forward and says he'll take care of the minor nuisance for him. Vergil knows he won't kill her because she's his daughter and is suspicious and wary of Arkham's true plans. Finally he meets Dante and they begin to fight where his brother is defeated for not having his demonic powers mastered. Stabbing him with his Yamato he tells him that he is an idiot and that power is everything, without power you cannot protect anything or anyone while he snatches his amulet. Dante seems to want to continue, but Vergil to humiliate him stabs him in the stomach with his own Rebellion which to his surprise would awaken his demonic powers. Vergil is ready for a second round but Arkham interrupts him telling him that they already have what they were looking for and that there was no time to waste so they retreat. Vergil realizes that Arkham would have left his daughter alive and when he confronts him he ends up telling him that it is his fatherly love that did not let him kill her. He stabs him with his Yamato and while he is dying he tells him that he is an incomplete demon, that human blood runs through his veins, which makes Vergil angry and he ends up killing him, leaving his body prostrate on the ground and continues on his way.

Following rumors that Sparda had settled on Fortuna, Vergil decided to visit the island. Upon arriving, he learned that his father was worshipped as if he were a god, which he found ridiculous, and decided to investigate the true nature of the place and who the members of the Order of the Sword really were. One night he visits the newly conceived new Leader of Fortuna and the Order of the Sword, Sanctus, who believes he is under attack and tries to attack this strange visitor but senses that his powers are very different and lowers his weapon to talk. Vergil tells him that he is only there to investigate Sparda's steps when he hears that the Holy Knights were approaching the room so he decides to flee telling Sanctus that one day he would surpass the power of his God while he disappears into the darkness of the night.

but the White Rabbit tries to explain that what he is really saying is that he needs Dante and his amulet while he is torn apart and killed. Arkham finds the location of the first seal and together with Vergil they prepare to break it. When they arrive, that demon was a giant statue with an angelic form to which Vergil replies that it was not a demon, receiving in response that there is also beauty in the Demon World. That demon makes Vergil relive an old memory about the night his mother died. After reliving that scene, he tears it apart although that statue was still alive demanding that it return his name taken away by his father. Vergil tells him that if he wants a name he should choose it, then the demon will call himself after one of the Seven Deadly Sins and his name would be 'Pride'. The first seal was released. Returning to Arkham Mansion, he is summoned and that's when he begins to tell him more about the Temen-Ni-Gru seals and that he would have located the next one. Vergil goes ahead and arrives at the place he meets Dante who was fighting with one of The Seven Deadly Sins. Vergil bursts into the scene and giving him the free choice to choose his own name, the demon disappears. The brothers see each other face to face after so much time and when Dante finds out that his brother was going to open the door to the Demon World, they begin to fight for Dante's necklace. The battle is left unfinished with the excuse that he could obtain it whenever he wanted.

History Past Vergil and Dante lived ordinary lives, playing like healthy children and loving their family. On their supposed eighth birthday, Eva gave her children necklaces that were believed to be fragments of the key to the Demon World. One night, demons discovered the whereabouts of the traitor's family and hunted them down. Eva died trying to keep Dante safe and hidden, while Vergil was far away in a cemetery where he was attacked by a horde of demons, which he fought to survive. He acquired the sword Yamato and, awakening his demonic powers, managed to win. After this, Vergil believed he was the only survivor of his family, so he began a new life in search of power. Devil May Cry 3 (manga) A year before the events of Temen-ni-gru, Vergil finds himself in a library searching for information about his father. It is there that he encounters Arkham, who tells him about the ancient tower and its seals, which conceal a great legendary power. The two form a partnership to bring the tower to life. Those seals are actually ancient demons whose names Sparda removed to serve as 'locks' that would keep the tower hidden. While Arkham investigates the location of the seals, Vergil stays at his mansion, where a drunken Enzo accidentally mistakes him for Dante, revealing to him that his twin brother was still alive after all. He meets the White Rabbit and begins to tell him the story of Temen-Ni-Gru, of how Sparda split everything in two; two amulets, two identical children with the same power. Vergil thinks he's telling him he's an incomplete being and therefore weak.

Personality In contrast to his brother Dante, who is outgoing and energetic, Vergil is serious, calm, and cool. He generally doesn't care about others or his surroundings beyond his own goals. Unlike his brother, who tries to deny his demonic heritage, Vergil is proud to be the son of the Legendary Dark Knight, yearning for his power and becoming a true demon. Although he loves his mother Eve and does not despise humans, he feels that his human heritage makes him incomplete and weak. His warrior code forbids him from using firearms, considering them undignified and inelegant in combat, which is why he only uses weapons that depend on his own skill. He is said to be an honorable warrior, but his moral ethics are questionable, as he has repeatedly tried to eliminate his unsuspecting enemies. Although he appears to be a self-confident person, the truth is that he feels insecure about himself or Dante, firmly believing that his mother loved his brother more than him, or having the idea that by gaining his father's power, he would not need anyone or fear anything. This makes him feel guilty about his mother's death, thus beginning his obsession with obtaining greater power. Although he tries to appear as a cold and sadistic character, the truth is that deep down he loved his brother and worried that he would not be trapped in the Demon World. Despite the popular belief that Vergil hates humans, the truth is that he never had any hostile intentions towards them, he is only indifferent to them because he considers them inferior, but that makes him somewhat hypocritical for not caring what would happen to the Human World. He is currently 43 years old, just like Dante.

Vergil Sparda

Appearance Vergil is identical to Dante, being twins, except that he wears a long blue trench coat, brown boots, and serpentine green pants with a cloth collar over a sleeveless black vest. He wears open-fingered gloves, and his silver hair is always spiked up, revealing his entire face. He always carries his katana in his hand.

Vergil Sparda

Vergil is the eldest of the twin sons of Sparda and Eva. He is the main antagonist of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. After their mother passed away, both he and Dante went their separate ways. Unlike his brother, Vergil abandoned his humanity and embraced his demonic heritage, thus beginning a quest to acquire his father's power. After being defeated by Dante, he falls into the depths of the Underworld and meets Mundus, having a fight in which he is defeated and ends up being manipulated by the Prince of Darkness under the name of Nelo Angelo. Years later, after Dante defeated Nelo Angelo, Vergil survives and is now free from Mundus's control, however, he is weakened. He reappears as a hooded figure to reclaim Yamato, taking the Devil Bringer from his son, now in a demonic guise and using his pseudonym Urizen, he is revealed to be the main antagonist of Devil May Cry 5.

Dante Sparda

Curiosities Dante's name comes from Dante Alighieri, a great Florentine poet during the late Middle Ages. His central work, the 14th-century poem Divina Commedia, is often quoted or used thematically throughout the Devil May Cry series. Dante seems to prefer Jack Daniel's, a brand of whiskey, as his preferred choice of alcohol. He is seen drinking this brand in the anime adaptation, and several bottles are shown scattered around his office during the epilogue sequence in the video game Devil May Cry 4. In episode 58 of ScrewAttack!'s web series DEATH BATTLE, Dante battles Bayonetta, using several of her Devil Arms, and briefly fighting alongside Trish before Jeanne knocks her down. Ultimately, Dante wins the battle due to his regenerative ability and rendering Bayonetta's "Witch Time" useless against his Quicksilver style. His design bears a slight resemblance to Leon S. Kennedy, one of the main characters in the Resident Evil video games. This is because the first installment of the Devil May Cry saga was originally going to become the video game Resident Evil 4 (2005). However, the project took a different direction, turning that video game into the first original Devil May Cry video game, taking Leon's design to turn him into Dante, in addition to the ideas of settings and monsters that they had in mind for that installment of Resident Evil. Dante always dresses in red as a reference to his mother, since an image of Eve can be seen in the Devil May Cry video game. Dante Sparada is between 41 and 43 years old, depending on the chronology taken into account. Dante is 43 years old, just like Vergil.

Other external styles Quicksilver: Acquired in the video game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. With this style, he is able to freeze or slow down time at will, as seen in the final scene of mission 12, where Dante uses this style to stop falling debris. Doppelganger: Acquired in the video game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, when defeating Doppelganger. This style allows you to create a dark clone with the appearance of Devil Trigger, with which you can perform combined combos. Dark Slayer: Acquired in the video game Devil May Cry 4, after recovering the Yamato sword that was taken by the Order of the Sword. With this style, he can summon the Yamato sword and use it in combat. Dante's Power It is believed that Dante's power comes not only from his demonic blood, but also from his willingness to protect others. Swordmaster: Here Dante demonstrates his great mastery of melee weapons and their enhancements. Gunslinger: Dante demonstrates his great skill with firearms with greater efficiency and elegance, apart from demonstrating how to use firearms in a very versatile way, such as his Firework movement, in which Dante uses the shotgun as a nunchaku to damage more enemies in the area. Royalguard: This is the most powerful style if mastered. It's Dante's defensive style that demonstrates his resilience. Here, he can block all enemy attacks if he manages to block at the moment of impact with Royal Block and counterattack very powerfully with Release or Royal Release. This is in addition to using Ultímate, an energy shield that can be used in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening starting at Royalguard level 3. Fighting styles In combat, Dante masters a wide variety of styles. Four of his styles are his own and improved by himself, and two more are external styles that he obtains from outside sources. Dante's four natural styles are: Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger, and Royalguard.

Dante's ability Dante possesses superhuman strength to the point where he can phase through stone walls and destroy columns with a single blow, as well as overpower opposing demons much larger than himself. His speed is so great that he can move faster than the human eye, which is why he was shown to evade a shot at such close range from Nero. His agility is at a superhuman level, allowing him to perform feats such as jumping great heights and balancing on a moving rocket or the enormous leaps he demonstrated when he faced the 'savior' during the video game Devil May Cry 4. He can channel his demonic powers into objects, either in melee weapons such as his Rebellion and Ebony & Ivory to use charged shots or as seen in chapter 2 of the anime adaptation, boosting the speed of a motorcycle to overtake a demon on the highway. He possesses self-regeneration, as he has been shown to heal his wounds effortlessly and without the need to activate the Devil Trigger; this can be seen when he is attacked by Cerberus in the opening scene of Mission 1 of the video game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. It is stated that Dante surpassed his father Sparda as of the ending of Devil May Cry and also the information given about him in Devil May Cry 4 in the menu library.

Appearance and personality Background Dante is the son of Sparda, a demon; and Eve, a human. The result of this union was Dante and Vergil, half-demon, half-human, the perfect hybrid. When they were young, demons attacked them in their infancy, and Eve died after this attack after protecting her beloved children. From this point on, Vergil realized that power is necessary to protect those you love, while Dante was affected by what happened and at this point, the two went their separate ways. In the anime, it is said that Dante took refuge in a village where his mother was known, and to hide he used the name Tony Redgrave. Dante is the main protagonist of the Devil May Cry saga.
