Tomioka Giyu

Appearance

Giyu is a rather tall young man, with a lean muscular build and pale skin, who is almost always seen with a serious and emotionless expression. He has unruly black hair of uneven lengths that rises in tufts around his head, which he wears tied in a low, messy ponytail at the base of his neck. Her bangs fall over her eyes in a choppy fringe. Its eyes are sharp and moderately large, its irises are a deep sapphire that fades to a lighter blue, and its pupils are a bluish black, and are framed by thin eyebrows. Giyu wears a dark cyan version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform with white buttoned kyahan wrapped around his legs and a pair of white zōri with dark blue straps and tabi socks underneath being the same cyan color as his uniform. Over this, Giyu wears a haori divided in half into two different patterns: the right one is solid dark red and the left one is geometrically patterned with green, orange, and yellow diamonds. These haori were later discovered to belong to his late older sister, Tsutako Tomioka, and his late friend Sabito. During his battle with Muzan Kibutsuji, he loses his right arm. After the fight, Giyu cuts his hair down to shoulder length, now wearing it down instead of tied in a ponytail. While Giyu trained with Sakonji Urokodaki, he wore a red haori that would later make up his current one, as well as black tattsuke-hakama pants tucked in and his current white kyahan wrapped around his legs and a pair of white zōri with dark blue straps. Furthermore, he also wears protective masks that are the signature of Sakonji students. For Giyu, it is a white fox mask with light blue eyes.

Personality

Giyu appears before Tanjiro Giyu's stoic and emotionless disposition. Giyu always wears a stoic and carefree expression on his face. However, he has a reserved personality and a strong sense of justice, with no tolerance for those who do not know their own limitations and throw away their lives. Despite letting Nezuko Kamado live due to Tanjiro Kamado's persistence, he shows zero hesitation when killing other demons and has no respect or mercy towards them like most Demon Slayers. Even so, Giyu violated the Demon Slayer Corps' code of conduct without hesitating to protect Nezuko during Shinobu's attempt to kill her. This implies that he does not completely despise demons as some other Hashira do, and is willing to make an exception for a demon, letting them live if they do not kill and eat humans. This shows that he is more pragmatic when dealing with demons rather than letting his hatred cloud his judgement. Giyu seems to have a complex about what others think of him and is shocked when Shinobu Kocho states that he is hated by many. Additionally, however, he doesn't seem to be hurt by Shinobu's other pokes, even though he ignores her. Despite this, they are actually friends with a good history together. He is a man of few words and has difficulty interacting with others, which is why he generally remains distant. He even goes out of his way to tell Akaza that he hates talking and wants to keep his name to himself as he doesn't think names should be shared, especially with demons. Giyu telling Tanjiro to leave him alone. Giyu's inferiority complex and survivor's guilt. Behind his seemingly emotionless and indifferent attitude, Giyu suffers from an inferiority complex that he has developed since his participation in the Final Selection. The situation becomes severe to the point where he considers abandoning his position as Water Hashira until Tanjiro helps him realize that instead of acting on his survivor's guilt, he should value his life and live for the people who sacrificed their lives for him.

General Abilities As Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful and skilled combatant. From the beginning, Giyu showed how much he surpassed Tanjiro and his friends, being able to effortlessly capture Nezuko from him and then knock him unconscious with a single blow.
