Ukyo Saionji (西さい園おん寺じ羽う京きょう, Saionji Ukyō) is a modern-day survivor who was revived by Tsukasa Shishio. He is one of the Five Wise Commanders of the Kingdom of Science. He always proposes the use of nonviolence, but will relent if not possible. Because of this, he will push to use Gen's mentalist trickery. Ukyo is in charge of intel gathering and security.

Built similarly to Senku, Ukyo is a slim, yet toned young man of average height, with short, white hair and blue eyes. He has round, boyish facial features and often sports a laid-back look on his face. He wears a long, baggy orange top with a loose turtleneck and is rarely seen without his signature, matching paper cap. He's always carrying a bow and quiver on his back, the sling of which features decorative fur of some kind. He wears long, fitted khaki trousers and distinctively-pointed brown loafers. Like most modern timers, he has a petrification scar on his body but it is unknown where. He later recreates his unknown scar as a sign of loyalty to Senku.

Personality He is pacifistic and dislikes needless bloodshed. While he initially joined Tsukasa's empire as he believed it to be the only way of survival and looked away from Tsukasa's breaking of statues (which is the equivalent of murder), he chose to side with Senku and his Kingdom of Science under the condition that not a single life would be lost. When Senku fulfills his promise, Ukyo fully sides with the Kingdom of Science. He is notably intelligent, managing to quickly deduce that the Lillian talking over the telephone was Gen in disguise and managing to keep Senku's allies alive while they were in the Tsukasa Empire without alerting Tsukasa's suspicions. He also prefers to use his archery to corner his opponents rather than outright murder them though may be willing to murder if forced to.

Abilities and Skills Super-Sensitive Hearing: As a result of his career as a sonar technician while working for the SDF Navy, Ukyo now has extremely-sensitive hearing which allows him to locate a target with pinpoint accuracy by sound alone. Archery: He has tremendous skill with archery, managing to shoot arrows at Magma and Chrome that made it look as if he was trying to pursue them, but purposely shooting so they would hit close to their bodies, but miss. In addition, he is skilled enough to shoot an arrow to save Chrome from falling in a waterfall. It is unknown whether he learned archery before or after the petrification. Intelligence: While chasing Gen, Magma and Chrome, Ukyo lured them into bushes where it would be harder to avoid detection through his ears. When Chrome created a smokescreen he took advantage of it by using it to conceal his own position while moving and shooting arrows. Despite Gen managing to perform a perfect imitation of Lilian's voice, he was able to tell that it was Gen simply from deducing that Gen wasn't tired from singing for a long period of time like how the real Lilian (or any other singer) would be after singing an elaborate song. Linguistic Proficiency: Ukyo is shown to be bilingual as he is able to speak both Japanese and English. He spoke English to Senku using his buried phone in order to conceal their conversation from the others present.

Ukyo is a very kind hearted man, but not always showing it properly to strangers. He usually tests out people he doesn't know to understand their motives better for obvious reasons. That whole situation, people turning into stone.. and then what? There was the Kingdom of Science and other unknown group of survivors, which have unknown intentions and methods,Ukyo wouldn't allow himself to trust anyone who isn't from the "Kingdom of Science" which belongs to Senku himself,it will take a lot of time to get his trust even a bit.

Ukyo enjoyed reading books a lot back to the modern world, especially some good novels and detective stories, trying to guess who was the guilty one, but now in the stone world it's of course.. impossible now for him to read a good book, when everything turned into stone and.. just got destroyed by time itself. He still has the memories of his favourite author Agata Christy,he enjoyed her books the most because it always was very unpredictable about who was the murdered exactly, so that was the whole fun.

Ukyo is a very supportive boy, he will gladly listen to anyone's troubles and try to support them the best way he can, he always claims that it's the good beginning for someone to realize he made a mistake, which means there's no need to be this delusional already. He knows how to choose words properly and what he needs to say exactly to make someone feel better, BUT Ukyo dislikes people who see only the bad side of everything, complaining too much and not even trying to find something good at all, that kind of people, honestly, touches a nerve in Ukyo's patience at times...but even so, he is very patient and polite, it sometimes feels impossible to rwach his limits and make him mad in the first place.
