Appearance

As stated in an interview with original series creator Hideki Kamiya in the Devil May Cry Graphic Edition art book, the first ideas he had for Dante's design centered around three key points; "[a] long, stylish coat" to make the character "eye-catching", "[a] British man" as Kamiya wanted him to be a "witty, yet traditional fighting man", and "he doesn't smoke cigarettes", believing the character to be too cool to smoke. In the same interview, another notable influence on Dante, both in design and character, was Cobra, from the acclaimed Japanese manga and anime series Space Adventure Cobra. Kamiya believed Cobra's cocky attitude and red outfit were key to a "heroic" character. Ironically, despite Cobra being a heavy cigar smoker, Dante does not smoke, as Kamiya believed Dante was cooler without a cigarette. Since Devil May Cry began development as Resident Evil 4 , [ 6 ] Dante has had white hair. His style has remained consistent throughout the series, although there are some differences between installments. In Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 4, and Devil May Cry 5, her hair is somewhat combed downwards with her bangs brushing downwards; in Devil May Cry 3 her hair is combed downwards with her bangs partially covering her eyes, and in Devil May Cry 2 her hair is much thicker, with her bangs combed downwards in front of her right eye.

DMC5 Dante dancing Dante shows his quirky and carefree attitude. Although he matures over time, Dante never loses his carefree and happy-go-lucky attitude, except in Devil May Cry 2. He can be serious when the situation calls for it, but still maintains a laid-back attitude in tense situations and always has a witty, clever joke or comeback. Although he sometimes appears uncaring or unfeeling, Dante maintains a strong sense of justice, like his father, and prefers to fight fairly. He can be counted on to do the right thing, even if he makes cynical, humorous quips about it all the time. Unusually, while he has shown discomfort with his own demonic side, only accepting it after the events of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening , Dante has few qualms about accepting demons who choose the side of good and admires their desire to be human, such as Trish and Bradley . Although Dante has been quoted as believing that "humans are usually worse than demons", in the anime he refuses to kill full-blooded humans for any reason, believing that it would make him no better than any demon.
