Background
Remnant is plagued by creatures known as Grimm, malevolent beings that constantly threaten humanity's existence. In response, humanity has developed powerful warriors called Huntsmen and Huntresses, trained to protect people and combat the Grimm menace at four main academy's Beacon academy, Atlas academy, Shade academy, and Haven academy. These huntsmen and huntresses attend academies where they learn various combat techniques and receive specialized training to fulfill their roles with Aura, Dust, and a Semblance. The academies are situated in four mystical kingdoms: Atlas, Vacuo, Vale, and Mistral. Each kingdom possesses its distinct culture, climate, and geography. Powered by Dust, a valuable mineral with various properties. Apart from the kingdoms, Remnant is also dotted with smaller settlements and villages, each with its unique charm, history, and culture. Furthermore, the world is inhabited by two races, humans and Faunus, which are basically humans with animal features, like cat ears, horns, Wings or a tail.
Kingdom of Vale
The Kingdom of Vale is one of the four major kingdoms in the world, located on the western continent of Remnant. It is known for its diverse culture, beautiful landscapes, and strategic importance. Vale is a hub of both civilian life and the Huntsman profession, which plays a critical role in maintaining peace and order in the kingdom. Vale is situated on the coast, benefiting from fertile lands and access to the ocean. Its capital, also named Vale, is a sprawling city that combines both urban and natural elements. The city is known for its iconic architecture, wide streets, and scenic gardens. Vale's location also allows it to play an important role in international trade, making it economically significant. Vale operates with a council of elected representatives, though the Kingdom’s leadership is characterized by its relatively peaceful society, with a focus on cooperation, diplomacy, and culture. The kingdom is governed by a system that balances the needs of the people with the importance of defense and security. The Beacon Academy, is one of the most prestigious in the world. It trains young hunters and huntresses to fight the Grimm. The academy is a symbol of Vale’s commitment to defending the kingdom and the rest of Remnant from the constant threat of Grimm, relying heavily on huntsmen. Vale is renowned for its rich cultural, with a particular emphasis on the arts, music, and theater. The kingdom celebrates a wide variety of festivals, reflecting its diverse population and cultural influences. One of the most notable events is the Vytal Festival, a global competition between the four kingdoms’ best fighters. Economically, Vale thrives through its agricultural sector, trade, and the presence of Beacon Academy. Vale is also home to many important organizations, both political and commercial, contributing to its prosperity. The kingdom places high value on education, justice, and the arts, and these values are reflected in its infrastructure and institutions.
Kingdom of Atlas
The Kingdom of Atlas, formerly known as Mantle, is one of the four major kingdoms in the world of RWBY. Situated on the frigid northern continent of Solitas, Atlas is renowned for its advanced technology, formidable military, and centralized governance. Originally established as Mantle, the kingdom thrived on Dust mining and technological innovation. Following the Great War, Mantle underwent significant restructuring, merging its government, military, and Huntsman Academy into a unified entity known as Atlas. This transformation marked Atlas as a militarized state, with its capital city elevated above the surface to symbolize its dominance and to protect it from external threats. Atlas operates as a centralized military state where the lines between civilian and military life are blurred. The Atlas Academy serves both as an educational institution and a training ground for military personnel. Graduates are often expected to join the military ranks, a practice that has drawn criticism from other kingdoms. The kingdom prides itself on values such as individualism, liberty, and strength, often promoting these ideals through dramatic operas and propaganda. Atlas is the most technologically advanced kingdom in Remnant. Its innovations include the Cross Continental Transmit System, which revolutionized global communication. The kingdom's military arsenal features robotic soldiers, advanced airships, and mechanized combat suits like the Atlesian Paladin-290. These advancements stem from the kingdom's emphasis on research and development, driven by the need to survive in its harsh environment. The Schnee Dust Company (S.D.C.), headquartered in Atlas, is the world's leading supplier of Dust, a vital resource for both energy and combat. While the S.D.C. has contributed significantly to Atlas's economy, it has also been criticized for its labor practices, particularly concerning the exploitation of the Faunus population.
Kingdom of Mistral
The Kingdom of Mistral is one of the four major kingdoms, located on the eastern continent of Remnant. Known for its rich cultural heritage, sophisticated governance, and strategic location, Mistral plays a central role in the events of the series. The kingdom is characterized by its diverse population, complex political dynamics, and a mix of ancient traditions and modern advancements. Mistral is set in a region with varied landscapes, including lush forests, mountainous terrains, and coastal areas. Its capital city, also named Mistral, is a bustling hub that blends both natural beauty and urban development. The kingdom's location along major trade routes gives it significant influence over the surrounding regions and fosters a thriving economy. The city's architecture reflects the kingdom's history, with grand palaces, temples, and ornate bridges. Mistral operates with a council of elected representatives, with an emphasis on democracy and the rule of law. However, the kingdom's political system is not without its challenges. Mistral is often described as politically divided, with various factions vying for power and influence. The ruling council, which includes figures from both the elite and common classes, aims to maintain stability, though corruption and internal strife often threaten this balance. The kingdom is also home to the renowned Haven Academy, one of the four Huntsman Academies in Remnant, Haven Academy. Mistral is a kingdom deeply influenced by its rich cultural history, with a strong tradition of art, music, and philosophy. The people of Mistral value knowledge and intellectual pursuits, and the kingdom is known for its intellectual elite. Mistral’s economy is diverse, with industries in agriculture, textiles, and trade. It serves as a key trading partner for other kingdoms, with its strategic location and rich resources making it an essential part of the global economy.
Kingdom of Vacuo
Known for its harsh desert environment. Vacuo is characterized by vast deserts, arid plains, and rugged landscapes. Its harsh climate, with extreme temperatures and limited water resources, has made it one of the most challenging environments in Remnant. The kingdom's capital, also called Vacuo, is a sprawling city that lies on the edge of the desert. It is a symbol of the kingdom's tenacity, with its architecture designed to withstand the extreme weather conditions and offer shelter to its people. The city itself is a blend of modern buildings and ancient ruins, reflecting Vacuo's ability to balance tradition with innovation. It is a center for trade, culture, and education, despite the surrounding wilderness. Vacuo operates under a relatively loose and decentralized government system. Unlike the other kingdoms, which have more structured forms of leadership, Vacuo is known for its more chaotic, "survival of the fittest" mentality. The kingdom is governed by a council of influential figures, including merchants, warlords, and former hunters. However, this system is often disorganized, and power tends to shift frequently, with different factions vying for control. The society of Vacuo is shaped by its environment. People in Vacuo are accustomed to hardship, and as a result, they value self-reliance, strength, and adaptability. This has led to a culture that is often seen as tough, independent, and fiercely protective of personal freedom. Vacuo is home to Shade Academy, one of the four Huntsman Academies in Remnant. Located in the heart of Vacuo's capital. Unlike other academies, Shade Academy is known for its emphasis on practical survival skills and adaptability in the harsh desert environment. Due to the kingdom's harsh environment and the strength of its people, Vacuo has a relatively low frequency of Grimm attacks compared to other regions.
Kingdom of Vacuo
Vacuo's defensive strategy often involves well-coordinated teams of hunters and huntresses, as well as a network of hidden shelters and supply caches spread throughout the kingdom's vast desert. Due to the scarcity of resources in the desert, the economy is focused on trade, particularly the exchange of rare minerals, ores, and agricultural products from the few fertile regions within Vacuo. The kingdom is also known for its skilled craftsmen, who produce some of the finest weapons and armor in Remnant. Vacuo's economy relies heavily on trade with the other kingdom. The kingdom's merchants and traders are highly respected for their ability to navigate difficult conditions and make deals even in the most challenging circumstances. Though Vacuo lacks the wealth of more prosperous kingdoms, it has a unique form of self-sufficiency and barter that keeps its economy running.
Patch island
Patch Island is a small island located off the coast of Vale. It is the home of Taiyang Xiao Long, Summer Ross, Qrow Branwen, and Raven Branwen, Yang Xiao Long and Ruby Rose. The island is known for its beautiful scenery, with lush forests and vast ocean views. Patch Island is relatively isolated from the rest of Remnant, with limited communication and transportation options to the mainland. This isolation allows the Rose-Xiao Long family to live a peaceful and quiet life away from the chaos of the world, but it still has Grimm. The Rose-Xiao Long house on Patch Island is a quaint and cozy home, filled with mementos and memories of the family's past adventures. The island also has a number of natural landmarks, including a cliff overlooking the ocean where the four adults trains train Ruby and Yang in combat. Though Patch Island is peaceful, it is not without its own dangers. Grimm, the creatures of darkness that plague Remnant, can still be found on the island, requiring the Rose-Xiao Long family to remain vigilant and prepared for any potential threats. Overall, Patch Island is a charming and idyllic location in the world, serving as a refuge for the Rose-Xiao Long family amidst the turmoil of their world.
Menagerie
Menagerie is a unique and significant location in the world. It is a secluded, independent island located off the southern coast of the continent of Anima. Menagerie serves as a refuge and home to the Faunus, a humanoid species with animal traits, who are often marginalized and oppressed in the rest of Remnant. The island is a symbol of both hope and tension, representing the struggles of the Faunus people for equality and self-determination. Geography and Location Menagerie is an island with diverse landscapes, from dense forests to rocky coastlines. The island’s geography provides natural defenses, making it an ideal location for its inhabitants to live in relative isolation. Menagerie is not part of any of the four major kingdoms, and it exists as an independent territory with its own unique political and social structure. The island's climate is generally mild, with lush vegetation and coastal waters providing essential resources for the Faunus population.Faunus Society and Government The Faunus of Menagerie live in a semi-organized society that is structured around community and mutual aid. While there are leaders who provide guidance and direction, the society is not strictly hierarchical. Instead, it is more of a collective, with various Faunus groups working together to maintain the island’s economy, security, and well-being. The government of Menagerie is led by a council of elders and influential Faunus leaders, each representing different factions within the Faunus population. While Menagerie does not have the same formalized structure as the kingdoms of Remnant, its people value autonomy and are fiercely protective of their way of life. The island’s leadership often faces challenges, both from internal tensions and from the broader political landscape of Remnant, especially concerning the Faunus’ rights and freedoms.
Menagerie
Culture and Economy Menagerie has a distinct culture that is deeply rooted in Faunus traditions and customs. As a community that has faced persecution and discrimination in other parts of Remnant, the Faunus on Menagerie are incredibly tight-knit, with a strong sense of identity and pride in their heritage. Many Faunus families maintain their own unique traditions, often based on the animal traits they possess, such as lion or rabbit ears, or other animalistic features. The island’s culture celebrates these differences, with festivals, art, and music reflecting the diversity of Faunus identity. Economically, Menagerie is largely self-sufficient, relying on agriculture, fishing, and trade with other kingdoms, though it is not as wealthy or technologically advanced as the major kingdoms. Much of the island’s economy is based on small-scale farming and artisan goods, with a growing industry in weapons production and crafting. However, despite its self-sufficiency, Menagerie is often economically dependent on external trade from the larger kingdoms, particularly Atlas and Mistral.
Menagerie
The White Fang and Political Tension One of the most critical aspects of Menagerie’s story is its connection to the White Fang, a militant Faunus extremist group that was originally founded as a peaceful organization to protect Faunus rights. Over time, the White Fang shifted toward more radical tactics, including violence and terrorism, especially after its leadership was taken over by individuals like Sienna Khan and Cinder Fall. The group’s ideology is rooted in the idea that the Faunus must fight for their equality by any means necessary, and their actions have led to significant political tension both within Menagerie and across Remnant. Many of the island's residents are divided over the White Fang's methods, with some supporting their cause for equality, while others reject the violence and prefer diplomacy. The White Fang's presence on Menagerie is a constant source of instability, as it challenges the established order and complicates the island's relationships with the kingdoms of Remnant.

While this trait made him a formidable leader, it also rendered him inflexible, unable to adapt when circumstances changed. Once he commits to a decision, he finds it nearly impossible to change course, even when new information or circumstances suggest that adaptation is needed. This makes him prone to extreme measures when he believes he’s in the right — to him, there is no acceptable margin for error when humanity’s survival is at stake.

Salem
Salem was born in an ancient era when magic was common and humanity coexisted with the gods. After her lover, Ozma, died from illness, Salem defied the natural order by pleading with the God of Light to revive him. When denied, she turned to the God of Darkness, deceiving him into resurrecting Ozma. This deception enraged the gods, leading them to curse Salem with immortality and obliterate humanity as punishment. Desperate to end her eternal life, Salem threw herself into a Grimm pool, transforming into a human-Grimm hybrid. This act granted her control over the Grimm and further distanced her from humanity. As a fusion of human and Grimm, Salem possesses formidable magical abilities and is immune to aging and death. She can manipulate dark energy, regenerate from injuries, and command the Grimm with absolute authority. Her immortality renders her invulnerable to conventional means of harm, making her a nearly unstoppable force. Salem is a complex character driven by sorrow, anger, and a desire for control. Her experiences have led her to believe that humanity is inherently flawed and that true peace can only be achieved through its destruction. She seeks to collect the four Relics to summon the gods back to Remnant, hoping they will judge humanity as unworthy and annihilate it, thus ending her own cursed existence. Despite her ruthless actions, Salem exhibits moments of vulnerability, particularly in her interactions with Ozma's reincarnations. Her inability to cope with loss and her longing for a world free from pain underscore her tragic nature. Salem operates from the shadows, orchestrating events that destabilize the world's balance. She leads a faction that includes powerful individuals like Cinder Fall, Dr. Arthur Watts, Tyrian Callows, and Hazel Reinart. Zwei is shown to be very intelligent for a dog. Not only does he react appropriately to Ruby's commands, he also seems to be smart enough to use mechanical tools. When Weiss wonders how Zwei will eat his canned dog food and a can opener drops out of his tube, Yang cheerfully drops the issue, implying that Zwei can use it.
