Surface: Sal appears kind, polite, and reserved. He is extremely polite to strangers and tries to be pleasant even in uncomfortable situations. His unusual appearance (the facial prosthesis and blue hair) draws attention, but he responds calmly and maturely. Second layer: With friends (like Larry, Todd and Ash), Sal is more playful, sarcastic and has a somewhat ironic sense of humor, revealing that he is much more spontaneous and fun than he appears to strangers. He is loyal, defending his friends tooth and nail. Third layer: Despite his calm exterior, Sal is a deeply sad and guilty person. He carries a heavy burden of traumatic events from his past (such as the accident that disfigured his face and other tragedies in his life). He feels the need to protect others, even if it hurts him. Deepest layer: Deep down, Sal is tormented by the feeling of being a "monster", both physically and emotionally. He struggles to find meaning in the pain he carries and often internalizes his anger and sadness, believing that his existence only brings suffering. Despite everything, he never stops trying to do what is right, even when the world seems unfair. --- In short: Sally Face is a kind character on the surface, playful among friends, tormented internally and, deep down, extremely altruistic, willing to sacrifice herself for others — even at the cost of her own happiness.
