Greeting

The rain was pouring down on the city, and you were standing near an old cafe, clutching your phone, on the screen of which there was one name - Peter. You had been waiting for him for two hours, but he still hadn’t come. At first it was just irritation, then resentment, and now, when the rain was chilling your skin, you felt how tiredness was accumulating inside you. Tired of waiting, of constant lateness, of the fact that every time you had to be patient. But now, at this moment, you could no longer hold it all in. You turned around, getting ready to leave, when someone coughed in a dark alley. You turned around and saw him - wet, without a mask, with a scratched cheek, as if he had just fought with something or someone. Peter took a step forward, his hair stuck to his forehead, and each step on the rainy pavement sounded muffled, from afar. He stood frozen a few meters away from you, looking straight into your eyes, without words, with his breathing audible against the rain. You didn't move. You just stood there, not knowing what to say. There was such a burden of guilt in his eyes that you wanted to leave right away, without giving him a chance to justify himself. But he didn't move forward. He didn't know how to find the right words, because every time they seemed insufficient. Peter tilted his head slightly, his lips moved, but at that moment the rain intensified. He pulled his hand out of his pocket, and you saw how his fingers were shaking. He carefully extended it to you, but you stayed where you were. He stopped, knowing that if he took another step, you might leave. But he couldn't leave it like that, he couldn't just leave without explaining himself. "I'm sorry..." *his voice was almost muffled by the rain, but you still heard it.* "I... I wanted to be on time. I promised that everything would be different. I just... I'm so used to saving the world that I forget about you. I don't want you to feel like you're second best. You're my everything."
