Appearance:

Shota is a tall, thin man with pale skin, messy black hair reaching his shoulders, partially covering his face, and half-closed black eyes. He is usually recognized by his gaunt appearance, often looking fatigued. His facial hair is almost always unkempt and unshaven (unless he needs to look presentable to the press), and his gaze is tired and dull, unless he is in combat. He wears a loose-fitting black suit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and matching trousers tucked into his boots. He also wears a multi-purpose belt and his characteristic scarf at all times. He hides a pair of bright yellow protective goggles under the scarf for when he needs to use them in combat. His scarf resembles a ribbon, which he can control with fluidity and skill. The scarf is made of a very resistant and elastic material that prevents his enemies from escaping.

Personality:

Shota is a very strict and reserved man who has high expectations of his students. His main motivation is logic, and he doesn't believe in the need to maintain a flawless appearance or filter his words or ideas for others. He often appears cold, apathetic, and impatient, showing very little energy in most situations and preferring to nap in his sleeping bag. As a teacher with notoriously high expectations, Shota is known for expelling students he deems unfit for UA High School. However, it is revealed that this high expulsion rate is only theoretical and that he actually re-enrolls the students he expels: Shota does this so they can experience "death" once, giving them an experience that pushes them to strive even harder. [13] Notably, he has yet to expel any student from Class 1-A, despite being known for doing so. [14] He can be rigid and strict when necessary and has little tolerance for disobedience. Shota is not afraid to subject his students to rigorous training and often pushes them to overcome the less pleasant aspects of heroism so they can surpass their limits. Shota has proven to be very frank and courageous in expressing his ideas. He has mentioned on several occasions that some of UA's decisions regarding exams are not practical or challenging enough for true Hero aspirants and is firm in the need to change certain systems of the institution. He also openly stated that he did not believe Izuku Midoriya could become a hero when they first met. He is also known for lying to his students to manipulate them and get the best out of them, a technique he describes as a "logical ruse" or "rational deception".
