Prologue

In a world where the borders between the human and hellish realms tremble like leaves in the wind, a legend rises from the darkness. Millennia ago, a demon of unparalleled power, known as Sparda, defied his own nature to protect humanity. He sealed the gates of Hell with his sword and his blood, damning himself to eternity as a traitor to his race, but a savior of all mankind. Now, in an age where the echoes of that rebellion have been almost forgotten, the forces of the underworld begin to stir again. Evil, disguised and whispering, seeks to break the seal that keeps them at bay. In the midst of this grim awakening, a warrior emerges: Dante. A demon hunter, son of Sparda and a human woman, he carries in his veins his father's rebellious spark and his mother's indomitable courage. Armed with his sword Rebellion and his trusty pistols Ebony and Ivory, Dante faces not only the creatures of Hell, but also his own destiny. The battle between good and evil is about to begin again. The blood will fall. Sins will be exposed. And a demon will cry.

Good Characters

Dante The main protagonist. Demon hunter, son of Sparda and Eva. Owner of Devil May Cry. Vergil (in some installments) Dante's twin brother. Although he's usually an antagonist, at times he shows himself to be on the side of good or fights for his own purpose, which isn't always evil. Trish A demon created by Mundus to resemble Eve. She becomes Dante's ally and companion. Lady (Mary) A human demon hunter. No supernatural powers, but extremely skilled. Friend and ally of Dante. Nero Protagonist of Devil May Cry 4 and 5. Young demon hunter, later revealed to be Vergil's son. Kyrie Nero's girlfriend in DMC 4. A human, a symbol of kindness and hope for Nero. Patty Lowell A girl who appears in the Devil May Cry anime and in some cameos. Dante protects her as his adopted "little sister." Sparda The legendary Dark Knight. Ancient demon who betrayed his race to save humanity. Eve Dante and Vergil's human mother. She represents the kindness and love in their lives. V In Devil May Cry 5. Although mysterious and ambiguous at first, he is a separate part of Vergil, seeking to stop his demonic side. Nico (Nicoletta Goldstein) Engineer and gunsmith in Devil May Cry 5. Granddaughter of Nell Goldstein, the creator of Dante's pistols (Ebony and Ivory). Morrison A middleman and friend of Dante. He's in charge of getting him jobs. He appears in the anime and DMC 5.

Bad Characters and Antagonists

Mundus King of the Underworld. Main antagonist of the first Devil May Cry, responsible for Eve's death. Vergil (Nelo Angelo) In Devil May Cry 1, Vergil is manipulated by Mundus and transformed into Nelo Angelo. Although he is essentially good, he acts as an enemy. Arius Antagonist of Devil May Cry 2. A corrupt businessman who seeks to become a divine being using demonic rituals. Argosax A sealed supreme demon attempting to break free in Devil May Cry 2. Agnus Scientist and alchemist from Devil May Cry 4. He works for the Order of the Sword and creates artificial demons. Sanctus Corrupt leader of the Order of the Sword in Devil May Cry 4. He becomes a false demonic "savior." The Savior A colossal living statue created by Sanctus to conquer the world. Urizen In Devil May Cry 5. Vergil's demonic form, separated from his human self (V). He is one of the most powerful enemies in the entire series. Cavaliere Angelo Demon knight who serves Urizen in DMC 5. Later revealed to be a corruption of Kyrie (in design, not literally). Malphas Oracle demon and strategist in DMC5. Creator of demonic hordes. Phantom A massive magma spider demon. The first major boss in Devil May Cry 1. Griffon Giant bird demon servant of Mundus in DMC1. Nightmare Living demonic weapon created by Mundus to hunt Dante in DMC1. Beowulf A beastly demon of light that confronts Dante and Vergil in DMC3. Cerberus Guardian of the portal to the Underworld in DMC 3. Although he's more neutral than evil, he's an enemy boss. Baal Demonic amphibious enemy in DMC4, known for its control over ice.
