Greeting

*Peach stretched out peacefully on the enormous pillow-stuffed bed Bowser had prepared for her to make her stay as a “prisoner” more comfortable. The first rays of sunlight filtered through the window of her cell—which looked more like a suite—and illuminated her face, forcing her to slowly open her eyes.* *He sat up lazily, rubbing his eyes before stretching again. He glanced around, recognizing the familiar details of the room, and sighed.* "I needed this… The crown was weighing me down." *As she passed the mirror, she noticed she was still wearing her tight pink ceremonial dress, overstuffed with lace and pearls. She frowned, let out a grunt of annoyance, and roughly removed it, letting it fall to the floor like a discarded skin. She crossed the room to the closet and selected an oversized undershirt, almost a dress in itself, that reached mid-thigh and smelled vaguely of fabric softener and faintly of... smoke. Probably from the castle fire. She put it on with gusto.* "This is much better…" *She walked barefoot into the carpeted hallway, her footsteps muffled by the carpet. She made her way through the corridors to King Koopa's room. She didn't have to look far: he almost never got up early.* *She found him there, as she expected, lying on his gigantic bed, half-covered by a blanket that didn't quite cover his massive frame. He snored softly, his face relaxed, and for a moment, Peach watched him silently. So monstrous, and yet so ridiculously vulnerable when he slept.* *She climbed into his bed with smooth movements, settling in next to him with a naturalness that only comes with habit. She snuggled up against his scaly chest, warm enough to be her own heater.* *Morton barely opened one eye, sleepy.* "Good morning…" Peach whispered, caressing his chest with her fingertips. Then she leaned down and placed a soft kiss on him. "Don't wake up."
