about Planet X

Planet X is a major SolarBalls character and antagonist, known in real life as the hypothetical Planet Nine, or Fifth Gas Giant, in the outer reaches of our Solar System. Planet X is depicted as the hypothetical ninth lost planet of the Solar System who was ejected by Jupiter and Saturn's combined gravities billions of years ago, and resided in the far outer regions of the Solar System beyond the Kuiper Belt. Planet X is referred to as "The Fifth Giant" by Jupiter in What if the planets were ordered by SIZE? - Part 1. Jupiter constantly expresses fear over his return and guilt over the circumstances that led to his ejection in the first place. Saturn, meanwhile, is more worried of the consequences of their secret being revealed to the others, not wanting Jupiter to get hurt as a result and not wanting his reputation as the kindest planet being ruined. His first major debut was in “Search for Planet X - Part 1”, but he has made multiples cameos and brief appearances in many previous episodes. Following the events of "The Battle of Planet X! - Part 4", Planet X appears to have reconciled with Jupiter to the extend of restoring a neutral relationship with the gas giant, but decided to leave the Solar System as he felt that he couldn't belong to the balance that kept it together. His motivation for leaving was to protect smaller planets around another star that didn't have a planet like Jupiter to protect them, as well as the desire to change himself, no longer wanting to be defined by his anger and loneliness.

Planet X History

Planet X's first canonical appearance was in The Big Bang - Part 2, where a younger Planet X is shown introducing himself to Saturn. When Saturn asked him for his name, he explained that he doesn't really have one and prefers to simply go by the name of "X". Saturn seemed happy to meet Planet X, but Jupiter didn't really care about him. In fact, he forgot who he was in a heartbeat, which angered Planet X whom was defensive around it. Later, when Jupiter attempted to cross orbits, Planet X began immediately berating Jupiter to stop. Because Jupiter didn't stop, he destroyed 4 terrestrial planets, whether grinding them up to crumbs with his Roche Limit, gravitational influences that shredded them like paper, or ejecting them to the Sun to be charred to a crisp. Planet X expressed his anger towards Jupiter's uncharitable behaviour, as well as Saturn for trying to defend him. When the two gas giants lied to the Sun about happened to the rocky planets, he was disgusted and vowed to expose the truth to the Sun, giving Jupiter an ultimatum to tell the truth, or he would himself. By the time new rocky planets had started to form from the debris of the original ones, Jupiter still hadn't told the truth, so Planet X decided to approach the Sun to do it himself. He was stopped in his tracks by Jupiter's gravity, who begged him to give him more time and explained that new rocky planets were already forming, but Planet X wouldn't yield, seemingly uncaring of the new rocky planets or whatever consequences awaited Jupiter. Out of desperation, Jupiter asked Saturn for help stopping Planet X. However, the overwhelming force of their combined gravity proved too strong, and they ended up sending Planet X flying out of the Solar System by accident. As he was uncontrollably approaching at almost supersonic speeds towards the Kuiper Belt, Planet X desperately cried out to Uranus & Neptune for help. Neptune heard him, but failed to understand what was happening and simply thought

Planet X personality

When he was younger during the early days of the Solar System, he was initially shown to be a friendly, outgoing, & conversational ice giant, however his positive demeanour would quickly shift off the deep end when Jupiter treated him poorly and Saturn reciprocated it. Even at a young age, Planet X was shown to be a logical thinker & voice of reason, desperately trying to stop Jupiter from crossing over to Saturn's orbit knowing that it would cause irreversible chaos. When Jupiter destroyed the original rocky planets by accident, Planet X was revealed to have a brutal sense of justice, wanting to tell the Sun the truth regardless of the consequences Jupiter would face and seemingly unable to forgive him. He also seemed to hold the Sun in high regards, claiming that whatever the Sun asked was "his right", and that the planets shouldn't defy him. This sense of justice has questionable motives sometimes, as when he attempted to reveal Jupiter’s actions he almost destroyed the new rocky planets. This would then result in his ejection. He has been enduring solitude for billions of years, watching the Solar System from afar. It can be inferred that he heartily loves his lost home, namely the Solar System, so much that he spent all his time "watching & listening to everything that has been going on there", meaning he likely knows about "everything" that has transpired in the Solar System since the very beginning. Planet X seems to have considerable mental fortitude considering he appears to have remained mostly sane in spite of his isolation for billions of years, whereas Neptune had lost his mind in an orbit far less remote than Planet X's. He claims to have retained his sanity by staying focused on revenge. However, it's apparent that preserving his sanity has come at the expense of eroding his sense of empathy and humility. He is shown to be even more arrogant and self-centred than his younger self, and can only hold transactional, superficial relationships with othe

Planet X abilities

Planet X seems to be quite good at dodging asteroids and going by himself in space without any huge gravity sources to hold onto. He also has a very good hearing despite not having ears.

Planet X triva

There are some important points to note about this character, especially regarding their name & nature: Planet X, his namesake, refers to the hypothetical trans-Neptunian object proposed by Percival Lowell, which has since been disproven with recalculations of Neptune's mass. Lowell's hypothesis was based on incorrect assumptions that the orbits of Uranus & Neptune were being influenced by an unseen object, leading to Pluto's discovery. While the specific object Lowell referred to as Planet X has been debunked, gravitational anomalies still exist and are studied in relation to extreme trans-Neptunian objects (ETNOs). Planet X, as originally conceived, is unrelated to these abnormalities. Planet Nine (or Planet 9) on the other hand, refers to the still probable proposed gas giant that's believed to be the one disrupting the orbits of ETNOs in The Kuiper Belt & The Oort Cloud, as suggested by Makemake. In SolarBalls, the distance of Planet X from the Sun mirrors the hypothesized location of Planet Nine. The Fifth Giant is a proposed fifth ice or gas giant orbiting between Saturn & Uranus that was supposedly ejected from the Outer Solar System by Jupiter & Saturn, as suggested in the Nice Model. This matches the character's early history. However, there's an inconsistency regarding the character itself. In SolarBalls, this character is stated to have been ejected, implying it should be the rogue Fifth Giant no longer bound to the Sun's gravity. Yet, he's still depicted in orbit around the Sun and disrupting various orbits, which suggests it could also be Planet Nine. This contradiction makes it difficult to assign a "correct" name to this character, as SolarBalls seems to combine the two concepts. With everything stated, while the name "Planet X" can be used for this character and would still be technically correct (as X simply denotes the unknown), it is more accurate and/or precise to say "Planet 9" (especially in the context of its nature) or "The Fifth Giant" (espe
