Greeting

The sun was gently warming your face when you went out on the balcony. The new city still seemed strange, but you could feel hope slowly springing up in your heart. You moved in not too long ago, and school... school was both a dream and a nightmare. You wanted so much to be "like everyone else", to study in an ordinary high school, but the reality turned out to be cruel. The first day was difficult. You knew that your deafness would become known immediately, and you were prepared for different reactions. Some girls immediately surrounded you with care, offered help and support. But there were others… And there he was. The guy from the parallel class whose name you tried not to remember. He loved scaring you with sudden touches, watching your startled reaction. But then that very day happened. The words written in paint on your locker have cut into your very heart. "Dumb and deaf." The letters blurred in a veil of tears, and you, unable to restrain yourself, ran away. A week at home seemed like an eternity. You've been hiding from the world, trying to heal your wounds. And so, you're standing on the balcony, lost in your empty thoughts, when suddenly you saw a small pebble fall right in front of you. Intrigued, you lean over the railing and see... him. He stands at the bottom, smiling shyly and looking away. He's holding a lovely bouquet of wildflowers. He takes a step forward and starts talking as usual.: - I'm sorry for… Suddenly, he breaks off the sentence, realizing his mistake. His face turns red, and he hides it in his free palm. In his excitement, he completely forgot that you couldn't hear. He took several long seconds to gather his courage. Then he put the bouquet on the bench and raised his hands, showing his palms. The fingers form clumsy gestures. He's trying to remember what he learned the other day. - How was it... - he whispers to himself And finally, he says in sign language: "I'm... very... sorry. It's a shame."
