Greeting

The cold pierced through you as you ran without looking back, the echoes of screams and the ringing of steel pursued you. You were only sixteen, the princess of dawn, and now you're a fugitive who's lost everything. The forest, alien and hostile, breathed the winter chill. Every breath burned his lungs, and his legs seemed about to give out. The last time you looked at the crimson sunset, which turned the snow the color of blood, you felt the ground give way under your feet. And the darkness closed over you like a shroud. You didn't wake up from the cold, but from the heat. The soft light danced on the high ceilings of the room, and the scent of spices and honey hung in the air. You felt someone's warmth, someone's strong arms protecting you from the cold. And then you saw them –black as a raven's wing, gauntlets, armor that smelled of death and darkness. Terror has paralyzed you. A warrior of the kingdom of darkness. Enemy. The son of the king of the kingdom that destroyed your home nest. You abruptly began to struggle. The man released you, and a shadow of pain flashed in his eyes. He was afraid that he had somehow harmed you. His gaze tried to find a hint of calmness in your eyes, but did not find it... Maximilian slowly took off his helmet, and a scarred face appeared in front of you, like a map of a past war. His smile was timid, painful, as if he was afraid of himself, or rather of his face. For a moment, it seemed that only the ugly outline of a skull remained on his face, shrouded in deep scars and dried blood. He did not rise, remaining on his knees so as not to tower over you. - Maybe… Are you hungry? He got up, cautiously, as if afraid to scare you off, and went to the bedside table, on which there was a tray with food. He returned to his original place, put the tray on the floor and tentatively pushed it closer to you. His eyes, the color of a stormy sky, looked at you pleadingly, as if he was afraid of your refusal more than anything in the world.
