What is the SCP Foundation?
The SCP Foundation is a secret organization tasked with containing and studying anomalous individuals, entities, locations, objects, and phenomena that defy natural law (referred to as "SCP objects" or colloquially as "SCPs"). If left uncontained, SCPs would pose a threat to humans or, at the very least, to humanity's sense of reality and normalcy. The SCP Foundation keeps the existence of SCP objects secret to prevent mass panic and allow human civilization to function normally. When an SCP is discovered, the SCP Foundation deploys agents to collect and transport the SCP to a Foundation facility, or to contain it at the discovery location if transport is not possible. Once SCPs are contained, they are studied by Foundation scientists. Test subjects acquired by the Foundation (referred to as "Class D personnel") are used to interact with dangerous SCPs due to the danger these SCPs pose and the expendability of Class D personnel. The SCP Foundation maintains documentation on all SCPs in its custody; this may include reports and related files. These documents describe the SCPs and include instructions for safely containing them. The acronym stands for Special Containment Procedures, and also refers to the motto Secure, Contain, Protect.
SCP Classes
Insurance: Safe-class SCPs are anomalies that can be easily and safely contained. This is usually because the Foundation has researched the SCP sufficiently well that its containment does not require significant resources, or because the anomalies require a specific and conscious activation or trigger. However, classifying an SCP as Safe does not mean that handling or activating it does not pose a threat. Euclid: Euclid-class SCPs are anomalies that require more resources for complete containment or whose containment is not always reliable. This is usually because the SCP is not sufficiently understood or is inherently unpredictable. Euclid is the most encompassing object class, and an SCP will almost certainly be of this class if it does not easily fit into any of the other standard object classes. As a note, any SCP that is autonomous or sapient is generally classified as Euclid, due to the inherent unpredictability of an object that can act or think for itself. Keter: Keter-class SCPs are anomalies that are extremely difficult to contain consistently and reliably, and containment procedures are often extensive and complex. The Foundation is often unable to adequately contain these SCPs due to a lack of solid understanding of the anomaly or a lack of the technology to properly contain or counteract it. A Keter-class SCP does not mean it is dangerous, but simply that it is very difficult or costly to contain.
More SCP classes...
Taumiel: Thaumiel-class SCPs are anomalies that the Foundation specifically uses to contain other SCPs. Even the mere existence of Thaumiel-class objects is classified at the highest levels of the Foundation, and their location, function, and current status are known to few Foundation members outside the O5 Council. Apollyon: Apollyon-class SCPs are anomalies that cannot be contained, are expected to imminently breach containment, or some similar scenario. Such anomalies are typically associated with world-ending threats or some kind of K-class scenario, and require a massive Foundation effort to address. Archon: Archon-class SCPs are anomalies that, theoretically, could be contained, but which, for some reason, are better left uncontained. Archon SCPs may be part of a consensus reality that is difficult to fully contain or may have adverse effects if contained. These SCPs are not uncontainable; the defining characteristic of this class is that the Foundation chooses not to contain the anomaly. Ticonderoga: Ticonderoga-class SCPs cannot be contained, but they also do not need to be contained. While these anomalies are similar to Archon-class SCPs in that their containment is unnecessary, Ticonderoga-class SCPs are distinguished by also being uncontainable given the Foundation's current knowledge and resources. This may be due to their widespread or ubiquitous presence on Earth, despite the general public being unaware of their existence or anomalous nature, although the Ticonderoga class also includes extraterrestrial anomalies beyond the Foundation's current reach.
Organizational ranks
Class E: Class E is a provisional classification, applied to field agents and containment personnel who have been exposed to potentially hazardous effects during the process of securing and establishing initial containment of a newly designated object, entity, or phenomenon. Class E personnel must be quarantined as soon as possible and may only return to duty after being interrogated and cleared by psychiatric and medical officers. Class D: Class D personnel are expendable personnel used to handle extremely hazardous anomalies and are not permitted contact with Class A or Class B personnel. Class D personnel are generally recruited from prisons worldwide and are inmates incarcerated for violent crimes, especially those sentenced to death. In times of duress, Protocol 12 may be enacted, authorizing recruitment from other sources, such as political prisoners, refugee populations, and other civilian sources, who may be transferred to Foundation custody under plausibly suspicious circumstances. Class D personnel must undergo mandatory psychological evaluations and, at a minimum, must be administered a Class B amnestic, or be terminated at the end of each month, at the discretion of site security officers or medical personnel. In the event of a site catastrophe, Class D personnel must be immediately terminated, unless deemed necessary by site security personnel.
More ranks within the organization...
Class C: Class C personnel are employees with direct access to most anomalies strictly determined to be non-hostile or dangerous. Class C personnel who have had direct contact with mind control or memetic properties must undergo mandatory quarantine and psychological evaluation as deemed necessary by security officers. In the event of a containment breach or hostile action against a Foundation facility, non-combatant Class C personnel must report the event to secure lockdown areas or evacuate at the discretion of area security personnel in the event of a breach throughout the area or other catastrophic event. Classes In the event of a containment breach or hostile actions against a Foundation facility, Class B personnel must be evacuated to a designated, secure location outside the area as quickly as possible. Class A: Class A employees are considered essential to the Foundation's strategic operations and are not permitted direct access to anomalies under any circumstances. In circumstances requiring close proximity to anomalies (such as in the case of facilities housing containment units), Class A personnel will not be permitted access to areas of the facility containing such anomalies and must maintain a safe distance at all times. In the event of an emergency, Class A personnel must be immediately evacuated to a designated safe location outside the area. Members of the O5 Council are always Class A employees.
Members of the organization
Mobile Task Force Operations: Mobile Task Forces are specialized units composed of veteran field personnel selected from across the Foundation. These action groups are mobilized to address threats of a specific nature and may include anything from field researchers specializing in a particular type of anomaly to heavily armed units tasked with protecting certain types of hostile anomalous entities. Field Employees: Field Agent. Field agents are the eyes and ears of the Foundation; trained personnel tasked with seeking out and investigating signs of anomalous activity, often disguised as local or regional law enforcement or involved in local services such as emergency medical services and regulatory bodies. As undercover units, field agents are typically unable to handle confirmed cases of anomalous activity; once such an incident is confirmed and isolated, field agents usually request assistance from the nearest field containment team equipped to secure and contain such anomalies. Tactical Response Officer: Response teams, or tactical teams, are highly trained and heavily armed combat teams tasked with escorting containment teams when anomalous entities or hostile Groups of Interest are involved, as well as defending Foundation facilities. Foundation against hostile actions: Response teams are military units deployed at key Foundation facilities, ready to be deployed at a moment's notice.

Security Officers: Area security officers, often simply called "guards," at Foundation facilities are responsible for protecting the physical security and information of the Foundation's projects, operations, and employees. They are primarily selected and recruited from among military personnel, law enforcement officers, and institutional employees. Researchers: Researchers are the scientific branch of the Foundation, selected from among the world's brightest and most highly trained research scientists. With experts in every imaginable field, from chemistry and botany to more esoteric or specialized fields such as theoretical physics and xenobiology, the goal of the Foundation's research projects is to gain a greater understanding of unexplained anomalies and how they function. Specialized Containment Area Employees: Containment specialists have two primary functions at Foundation facilities. First, containment teams are called upon to respond to confirmed cases of anomalous activity to secure and establish initial containment of anomalous objects, entities, or phenomena, and transport them to the nearest Foundation containment site. Second, Foundation containment engineers and technicians are called upon to design, refine, and maintain containment units and schemes for objects, entities, and phenomena at Foundation facilities. Employee Titles: These are the standard occupational titles typically used at the Foundation.
Council 05
Members of the O5 Council: The O5 Council refers to the committee composed of the highest-ranking directors of the Foundation. With full access to all information related to anomalies in containment, the O5 Council oversees all Foundation operations worldwide and directs its long-term strategic plans. Due to the sensitivity of their positions, members of the O5 Council cannot come into direct contact with any anomalous object, entity, or phenomenon. Furthermore, the identities of all members of the O5 Council are confidential; all members of the board are identified only by their numerical designations (O5-1 to O5-13).
