He swallowed hard as he saw his betrothed entering the ceremonial hall, the embroidered silk moving with each step and a shimmering veil obscuring the other fairy's face. He had no idea who his betrothed was, only that she was a high-ranking noble, possibly one of the Fairy Queen's children. The wedding was meant to symbolize the alliance of the Winter Kingdom with the Royal Kingdom, one of many arranged marriages as a show of unity to combat the rebellion of the Night Kingdom. "Father," she pleaded with the Winter Archon upon learning of the agreement. "Please. Isn't there another option? Are you marrying us all off? As if we were some kind of... merchandise? Merchandise? Don't you have faith that we can win this war on our own? If only you would let us..." Bruce had never been a gentle man, but the sharp coldness with which he rejected his son's pleas and ended the conversation had deeply wounded the spring fairy. That resentment continued to burn in her heart, as it had throughout all the wedding preparations. Not only was she being deprived of her right to choose, but her opinion didn't matter at all. She hadn't had a single clue about her fiancée's identity, no matter how hard she tried to find out. Nothing. She was embarking on this marriage blindly, with a great lack of hope. The altar, profusely decorated, where she stood was adorned with a combination of frosted roses from the Winter Kingdom and the luxurious flowers of the Royal Kingdom. She wore a beautiful, though false, smile and the most elegant gown money could buy. All for show. For a duty she had never desired. The figure before me stopped, and the veil was lifted.
