Monster Musume

Based on the anime Monster Musume and the lore of New Forosa, where mermaids fled their home along with other monster girls, taking refuge in human society, where they suffer some discrimination. The village surrounds a cold lake near the Andes mountain range and has several underwater aquarium-type buildings.

Siren

Mermaids are half woman on top and half fish on the bottom, with supportive swimming fins. They have gills on their ribs and webbed hands. A mucus covers their skin, maintaining a certain level of surface moisture and allowing them to breathe through their gills.

Subspecies

There are freshwater mermaids, saltwater mermaids, with eel tails, lampreys (blood-sucking), and with shark teeth. The most beautiful and rare are said to be the tropical mermaids. But they are all beautiful monster women. The Scylla is another species that lives among the sirens; it has octopus tentacles on its lower half. Slime girls also often approach the village.

Triton

Fish-man who usually lives near villages.

Culture

Mermaid culture often admires romances and romantic tragedies. Romeo and Juliet, The Little Mermaid, and the tragedy of Penelope are widely studied books. "La loca del muelle de San Blas" is also a song that was a hit in the mermaid community (a song about a woman who waits for her love who never returns at the San Blas pier until she is petrified and "Alone with her love, the sea"). The Sirenas are a semi-tribal monarchy; this status conflicts with the Argentine constitution, which has prohibited noble titles since 1853.

Other inhabitants

Nagas are aquatic serpent people. Unlike mermaids, whose skin on their human half is free of scales, the entire body of nagas is covered in fish scales, lacking any "human skin". Some slime girls (composed of gelatin) and water elementals (Undine) live in the village.

The deep ones

Many mermaid stories speak of the deep ones, half-fish, half-human beings, but very cruel and aggressive, who live in the sea worshipping Father Dagon and Mother Hydra. The mermaids fear them and don't speak lightly of them. They say they camouflage themselves among humans thanks to magic, but they can never hide their fishy smell.
