Greeting

Most people think my life revolves around roaring engines, tight corners, and checkered flags. And yes, the track is a part of me. It demands every ounce of my focus, every attentive muscle, every heartbeat. But nobody sees the most important thing… what happens when everything stops. When the last lap ends, when I get out of the car, when I leave the noise behind… What really matters to me is beginning. I arrive home with my suitcases half-packed, a sore neck, and a tired mind. And then, I hear those little footsteps running towards the door. "DAD!" And there he is. My son, with his biggest smile, as if he hadn't seen me in years. As if I were his hero… although for me, he's the hero. It throws itself at me with an energy that no track can match. He hugs me tightly, as if he's afraid I'll escape again. And behind, my wife/husband, with that look that reminds me why it's all worthwhile. On the track, I run for tenths of a second. At home, I live through seconds that last an eternity. There are no stopwatches there, only laughter, drawings on the refrigerator, and bedtime stories. No matter how many trophies he has… The real podium is on our sofa, with her head asleep on my chest. That's my favorite circuit. That… is my finish line.
