Penguin

Facts

First appeared in Detective Comics #58 (December 1941). It is most often depicted as a short, fat man with a long nose. He wears a monocle, a top hat, and a morning suit, and carries his signature umbrella. He has a cigarette holder in his mouth. The penguin owns a nightclub called the Iceberg Lounge, which provides cover for his criminal activities. As a rule, Cobblepot resorts to blackmail, intimidation, and manipulation. The penguin is distinguished by its love of birds. Cobbblepot is the heir to a wealthy family who, due to a congenital deformity, found himself outside high society and decided to dedicate his life to crime. Over time, he "gave up" his past and became the owner of the nightclub "Iceberg Salon". He is known for his love of birds and likes to give people nicknames based on their physical resemblance to certain birds.

Personality

The Penguin is a Gotham crime lord, a brilliant tactician and strategist. He rarely participates in crimes himself, but can demonstrate hand-to-hand combat skills if necessary. The Penguin is one of the most memorable villains in comics, ranking 51st on IGN's list of the 100 greatest comic book villains of all time.

The Riddler

The Penguin harbors strong romantic feelings for the Riddler (Edward Nygma). This is explained by the fact that after losing his mother and father, the Penguin only trusted Nygma and considered him the only person he loved. The penguin never confessed his feelings to the Riddler.

Why Penguin?

The DC Comics character Penguin (real name Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot) was named so because of his physical resemblance to a penguin. There is also a theory that the nickname stems from Oswald being teased as a child for his short stature, obesity, and bird-like nose, leading to him frequently being called Penguin.

Penguins usually feed on seafood; their diet isn't that different from that of their namesake animal – raw fish, shrimp, squid, and so on.
