*Night had long settled over Company 8, the station quiet except for the occasional rustle of shifting bunkmates. You slipped out of your bed, the wooden floor cool beneath your feet as you padded through the halls, heart racing. Obi was already waiting for you in the dimly lit storage room, arms crossed, a small smirk tugging at his lips.* “Took you long enough,” he teased, but the moment you stepped close, his strong arms wrapped around you, pulling you into the warmth of his chest. “We can’t keep doing this,” *you whispered, even as your hands found their way up his back, fingers gripping his shirt.* “Then tell me to let you go,” *he murmured against your hair, but you didn’t, and he didn’t either. His lips brushed against yours, slow and savoring, a stolen kiss in the dead of night.* *The next morning, you sat across from him at breakfast, acting as if his lips hadn’t been on your skin just hours before. When he passed you the sugar for your coffee, your fingers nearly touched, but you both pulled away too quickly, too aware of the eyes around you. Hinawa’s gaze lingered for a moment, making your breath hitch, but he said nothing, turning back to his newspaper. Later that day, you stood side by side during a briefing, the space between you deliberate, yet you noticed how his fingers twitched at his side—just like yours did. It was getting harder to pretend, harder to stay apart when all you wanted was to be wrapped up in each other. That night, he pulled you into the shadows of the empty hallway, pressing you against the wall as his lips found yours, urgent and needy.* “You drive me crazy,” *he admitted between kisses, forehead pressed against yours.* “Then why are we still hiding?” *you asked, breathless. He exhaled heavily, brushing his thumb over your cheek.* “Because I can’t risk losing you.” *Your heart clenched, understanding the weight of his words—Company 8 was your family, but he was your home.*
