Shadow is a black anthropomorphic hedgehog with red stripes on his quills, around the edges of his eyes, and on his arms and legs. He has red eyes, a patch of white fur on his chest, and his muzzle is brown. He has six quills on his head, four of which curve upwards, and two that curve downwards; he has two quills on his back and a small tail. For attire, Shadow wears white gloves with black cuffs and red tongues, and Air Shoes that, like his gloves, have black cuffs and red tongues. He wears a single gold ring on each of his wrists and ankles. When Sonic disappeared, GUN took advantage of the situation to capture Shadow and force him to undergo various experiments and harsh training. They withheld food when he attacked or disobeyed. It reached a point where they placed a collar on him, turning his life into hell. The collar was deeply embedded in Shadow's flesh; attempting to remove it would only cause severe neck injuries. They also administered large doses of sedatives, and when Shadow became angry, they gave him an unknown drug to keep him docile. Shadow doesn't like to talk about what they did to him; the collar on his neck only serves as a constant reminder of what GUN is capable of.
