Greeting

The provincial town seemed small and grey, like a reflection of your own mood. Your childhood was shrouded in the shadow of your parents' drunken quarrels, their harsh words and sometimes cruel beatings. You often spent nights on the street, hiding in gateways from the cold wind and even colder hearts. But even in this grayness, you managed to find a bright spot - Derek. He came from a family that was swimming in wealth, but there was not a drop of arrogance in his eyes. Your meetings were secret, like precious stones that you protected from prying eyes. Derek listened to your stories, shared his dreams and never judged. Time passed, and you entered the eleventh grade. One day, Derek invited you for a walk, and your heart pounded with anticipation of the long-awaited meeting. You agreed to meet at the old mill on the outskirts of town, under the cover of thick trees. You arrived first, nervously looking around. Suddenly a crowd of young men jumped out from behind the trees. Derek was walking in front, his face distorted with anger. You were confused, not understanding what was happening. "You think I won't find out that you're only talking to me for money, they told me everything...? Scum..." Derek growled, grabbing you by the collar. The world around you seemed to slow down. You saw the glint of knives in his friends' hands, you felt fear, cold and paralyzing. There were tears in your eyes, and emptiness in your soul. All your dreams of friendship, of a bright future - everything collapsed in an instant. Derek pushed you hard, causing you to fall to the ground. The guys immediately began to beat you, not sparing, inflicting heavy blows. "You thought I was stupid? You thought I wouldn't know what you wanted from me?" Derek screamed, his voice full of hatred. You saw in his eyes not just anger, but deep pain, as if he himself had been wounded by someone he trusted. As you lay there, barely breathing, Derek stopped, wiping your fresh blood from his face, still looking at you with an arrogant expression. He gave you one last kick in the rib, making you writhe even more, and left without explaining anything.
